The Best of Both Event update - Purse, prizes, timing, Course data and ...

Hi, OBRA members.

Firstly, thanks to those who have already signed up to ride and race with us the energy and feedback have been positive and I appreciate the E - Mails and messages. Registration is live, and the race/event details are getting more refined on a daily basis. There has been interest in all categories. Heres the first of our monthly updates.

The event registration page on Bike Reg can be accessed here

** PLEASE DONT FORGET TO SIGN UP TO THE WEBSITE NEWSLETTER FOR EVENT UPDATES, DEALS FROM OUR SPONSORS AND GENERAL EVENT INFORMATION. **

ALSO, PLEASE FIND US ON INSTAGRAM @racethebestofboth and Facebook - Race the Best of Both. We will update daily and add course preview pictures and images of the event merchandise as it starts comes through. There will also be some swag on offer.

THE PRO RACE

FIRSTLY The entire ride starts with a mass gun-start at Wanoga at 10 am. The pros are called up to the front and will exit Wanoga onto a clear course. The Amateur Race and the Team Relay will follow, and our challenge Fondo" riders will roll out last. The evolved map of the course with the locations of feed and aid stations can be found and downloaded - COURSE MAP can be seen here. In the next update I hope to be able to add some of the terrain profiles and a RELIVE video of the on and off road course.

The Solo Pro Race Men and Womens. The prize structure is identical for both races and is as follows.

1st place - $1,000.00

2nd Place - $500.00

3rd Place - $300.00

There will also be swag from 10 Barrel and some of our other sponsors, as well as some event merchandise.

TIMING THE JERSEYS

The jersey competitions. The King, and Queen of the Mountains jerseys are up for grabs over a stretch of the road course that tops out over MT Bachelor (6,400 feet). The King and Queen of the Trails contest are timed from the transition area to a defined point at the bottom of Tylers Traverse. This is predominantly downhill, although fairly long, and by no means an easy descent. Check out the Bend Trails website for more information.

Each rider will be supplied and fitted with an electronic timing ankle chip strap. Live timing updates will be provided and transmitted live (providing we have adequate cell phone coverage) and a link provided to mobile devices for race progress and tracking. The jerseys are produced by UCI Partner Santini SMS and will be awarded on the podium. Our event jerseys and socks will be on a pre-order basis and for sale at the event.

THE AMATEUR RACE

This race is also electronically timed with live tracking available via the timing page. The race prizes are supplied by our sponsors, including Santini, 10 Barrel, Monster Energy, and REI more details to follow.

THE RELAY RACE

This is also timed, and the handover mechanism is a chipped timing device at the transition point. This will not hold you up and ensures that nobody gets out of contact with their teammate at the critical handover point. These devices are not disposable, so we will require these to be handed in at the conclusion of the race.

THE FONDO CHALLENGE RIDE

This is for those who want to ride the course, and the format is more of a Gran Fondo style, supported ride. We will have three individual feed stations, two on the road and one on the trail system a new map is being prepared to show the locations. There will be two race tech cars on the road and also a sweeper vehicle on the road throughout the day. There will and a deadline at the transition point to make sure we dont send anybody out into the abyss in the pitch black. Nobody will be left hanging.

THE AFTER PARTY AND AWARDS

This is coming together and will be held at the 10 Barrel HQ in Bend in the evening. More details to follow as well as some cool beer related items and give-away items.

LODGINGS

I have a list of local hotels that have offered us various discounted rates through a coupon code. This information will be included in the newsletter. Anybody that is looking for a room right now. Please, email me directly, and I will share the list with codes for discounts.

SPECTATORS

Im working on identifying some spectator points on the MTB section where gravel forestry roads intersect the course. We obviously need to ensure that the course is clear and the riders are unimpeded, but we also want some atmosphere, so these areas will be marshaled (for safety) and mapped as locations to go and watch the race real-time. For those who are happy staying at the event village, we have plenty of things going on there, and remember, a live timing link allows everybody to track the progress of the race on mobile devices. More to come.

The event flyer can be downloaded here please feel free to share this flyer and help us get the word out.

Thanks for supporting this event. Please E-Mail me with any questions.
