Did you get an answer to this question?
If not, this should help: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/4297801 I
plotted it from Ainsworth, figuring you'd know how to get that far at
least. To get to Hood River entirely on the Oregon side requires
riding 84 for 2 stretches: a 4 mile stretch after Wyeth Road ends (on
this map, miles 17-21) and a the final 6 mile stretch from the Viento
State Park exit to the Hood River Exit.
Also note that I've not ridden the one mile of trail section between
miles 21-22 on this map. But I'm 99.9% certain it's paved.
Should you want to continu on the Dalles, the scenic trail picks up
again on the west side of Hood River. A combination of the Old Hwy and
a paved bike/ped path gets you all the way from Hood River to the Dalles
without getting on 84 again.
Hope this helps.
Susan
