Going to Cat 1 and back to Cat 2

Back and forth between categories? Sounds convenient, albeit a bit loose.
Umm really?

I am not sure how anyone else feels about it. I think a rider that is not in contention for points should be allowed to occasionally race a different cat if they miss their race. The promoter gets paid, racer has fun, no one loses points because of it. I can see how that might be a pain for officials.

No time to train, really, and am committed to fitness and fun not performance and standing on podiums. Back to my story I was told I can't do Cat 1 and drop back to Cat II. Is this a rule? Once you go Cat I you can never go back? I'm not trying to stir the dander of those of you who feels impassioned about such stuff. Just wondering.

Eric / all,
Yes. He could have been a factor that made cat 1 racers lose a chance at a win if he “got in the way” even when being lapped, but I go with Eric saying let him race since he made the trip. On the other hand (obra rules aside), planning to arrive on time is part of the racer responsibility. I personally doubt he would have factored into the finish order for reg. cat 1 riders.
I on the other hand arrived without my helmet. I followed obra rules and did not ride around without a helmet, but borrowed one and used first lap as pre-ride. Racing with a helmet is a good rule to follow to the letter.
By the way, Saturday race day out there was a great way for people to go race without dealing with “rush-hour” driving on a weekday. I hope they do this again. Of course it was super well organized and my morning race had sweet conditions.

on the obra site: OBRA allows self-selection of categories as a Cat 3, Cat 2, or Cat 1. However, once you select there are downgrade rules ...

Downgrade rules:

A rider may downgrade one category when:

• They have no significant results for 2 seasons or at rider's discretion and approval of OBRA.

I have always found it funny that you can self select, but then must get approval to downgrade. That said send in your lack of results and maybe you will get lucky?
