McKenzie Pass

Hi, all.  Does anyone know whether the McKenzie Pass is open all the way to the west snowgate?  I understand that ODOT has restricted riding to Friday - Sunday, but it's not clear to me how far it's open from the east snowgate.
ThanksEd Lanton

We rode up (and down) the west side on Sunday. It's plowed to just about the 5000 foot mark, looks like we were about 1/2 flat mile from the Observatory. Lovely.

Does anyone know about the conditions starting from west end and going to Sisters? I was planning on dropping some riders off on the west side and meeting them in Sisters on Sunday but if the route is not passable by then we will obviously have to re-think the ride. Thanks, Jon

Thanks Matt and Rick for posting that info. Is there way to find info on how far you can climb up on the West side?

Hey Guys,

We have been in touch consistently with ODOT on the plowing and opening of McKenzie Pass as our super rad ride the High Desert Gravel Grinder is schedule to make it to the top next week. Latest and greatest is the road is close to motor traffic but you can easily skirt the gate and ride all the way up to within a quarter mile of the Observatory. Crews will be back up on May 31st working to finish plowing to the top. That said the west side crew that plows from McKenzie Bridge up has not gotten going and so it is still going to be a while before you can ride up and over the whole way. Latest projections are another 2 weeks for bikes and possibly not till July for motorist. That said if we see the temps getting as high as they have been this past week that could speed things up. Next week they have to literally dig through some 30 foot deep snowbanks. It is going to be an epic site next week for the High Desert Gravel Grinder!!!

Sincerely,
Chad Sperry

A lot of buzz about McKenzie Pass and it being opened. I thought it would be a great time to show how much work ODOT puts into clearing. The big rotary plow moves incredibly slow as it works through the thick consolidated snow. At the top were drifts can reach 30-40 feet they have to take a massive front end loader and layer by layer dig down.

Check out the video our event photographer Jason Bagby shot last time they were up clearing https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8jbeH3mnJyI

Im selling 1 pair of slightly used Recon jet sunglasses. Im not riding with them as I have other sponsor obligations now. They work perfectly fine and there is nothing wrong with them. MSRP is $500. Pretty cool features with a HUD (Heads Up Display) it will display your speed power etc... You don't have to look at your computer. $150.00 7192010726 Cheers

Hello!

In an effort to capture the authentic grit of cyclocross we are recruiting real riders in the Portland area that compete. The Photo/video shoot would involve us creating scenarios from a tournament, for example: a group of riders grinding around a muddy turn or jumping over a log. We are casting men 25-40 years of age.

Obraland-

Seriously, the travel case works just fine but it's ugly and I don't need two. Someone take it out of my garage before I get in trouble again for having "too much" bike stuff.

Also, I'm looking to get a new Garmin with maps so I don't get lost and would like to know the street value of my Edge 500. It'll come with a charging cable, a stem mount, and a lot of great experience. What would you pay?

Thanks!

In an effort to capture the authentic grit of Mountain riding we are

would involve us following 2 riders through single track trails as they
kick up dirt, roll into tight turns and land some sold jumps.

We are casting men and women 25-35 years of age.

Interested?

Subject: [OBRA Chat] 2017 Desert Orthopedics Bend Don't Brake Road
Race Final Updates!
Message-ID:

Content-Type: text/plain; charset="utf-8"

This Saturday is the 7th (and likely final) running of the Desert
Orthopedics Bend Don't Brake Road Race in
Bend! Pre-reg numbers have improved a bunch and we are forging ahead.
Weather forecast looks gorgeous with sunny skies, light winds and a high of
80 degrees.

All the details are on our website
but here are a few
last minute reminders/ updates:

- If you pre-registered just check in at registration (Desert
Orthopedics tent) to let us know you are there but no forms to fill out or
sign.
- You can register on-line at OBRA up to noon
TOMORROW for $30 or sign-up on site race day for $40. If signing up day of,
make sure to bring your OBRA card.
- Numbers will go on the *RIGHT* and back.
- Please bring spare wheels for your race. If we get enough for each
race, wheels will be neutral otherwise it is wheels in, wheels out.
- Make note on website of parking/registration area and the start line
which is 1.7 miles away.
- Note the finish line is about 1 mile beyond last year's. It is a lap
circuit race so everyone will see the finish line multiple times before the
final sprint.
- We have some great prizes including custom BDB hats, ca$h, coffee from
Backporch Coffee along with HUB Cyclery and Pine Mountain GCs to give to
the top 3 finishers from every race so stick around for awards if you are
podium bound.
- *We have had a few volunteer cancellations and desperately need a few
flaggers in the afternoon.* See the sign-up sheet here
.
You will receive lunch and you or your loved one can race for free.

Hope to see you out racing in Bend Saturday!

Don't edit crop or alter them is anyway. Also there's a lil diagonal arrow lower left-hand side when you're posting pictures on Instagram hit it and it will auto fit the photo to your screen.

Y'all are chopping my photos like a salad lately.

Content-Type: text/plain; charset="utf-8"

In just under 8 weeks, on Sunday July 16th, the 2017 edition of the OBRA
Hillclimb Time Trial Championships will take place on Mount Hood. This is
part of the 2017 OBRA Time Trial Cup, and since this is a State
Championship Race, it is worth double points!

* The 2017 edition use the same course as in the past, almost 6 miles of
uphill fun, and your finish line is once again right in front of the lower
ski lodge.
* Medals for top 3 in each category.
* As always we will have a truck to carry gear to the top for you so you
are equipped for your descent of the mountain, water and gatorade at the
finish to fill up your water bottles, and some snacks as well.
* We will be working with Timberline to prep the course like we did last
year, with white markings on the ground to warn you of potholes and other
issues, as well as making the hard left turn off the service road to the
last section of road clean and smooth as possible.

Online Registration is open. Take advantage of pre-reg prices and sign up
before July 15th. It also allows you to not have to drive to the mountain
early to register and then sit around for a long time before you race.
Registering ahead also helps us plan ahead.

Day of registration will be available and we will be able to accept cash,
checks, and debit/credit cards!

These are the stock wheels that came with my 2015 Trek Superfly 9.7. OEM rim strips and valves included. I wanted to keep them for a winter set but I just won't ever use them. 10/11 speed compatible. Thru axle. Non-boost wheels.

WTB: Hello, My 9 year old wants to go clipless. We have the egg beater pedals, but need shoes. He's ~35cm, but I'm thinking we could go up a cm or two, if the closure system is good. I can put him in thick socks. :) Women's shoes are ok because I know getting men's that size is hard to come by. He's PDX Devo, so if it has green, yellow, or black, that would be great. He'll be wearing them for Cross, so if they have good cleats still, that would be good.
Thanks.

Hi All,

If you are unfamiliar with the camp, it is a 5 night sleep-away camp that
is focused on road racing and is open to 14-18 year olds. During the camp
riders will ride plenty, complete two time trials, and gain foundational
knowledge for excellence in racing through workshops and seminars lead by
experts. Cost is $750 ($850 after July 6th).

As in past years, the Northwest Junior Talent ID Camp will be held in
Forest Grove, OR, about 45min. west of Portland.

The camp is a few weeks later this year than it has been in the past. Dates
are now AUGUST 7-11. It begins the day that Rapha Northwest Jr. Stage Race
ends, so consider combining the events for a week long road biking bonanza.

I bought these thinking they would be great and it turns out I just have too small / shallow of a foot and they just swallowed so my loss is your gain. Literally ridden less than 2 hours total, only indoors on trainer. Slightly snipped the tongue a bit to try to make room for my angle but you can barely tell.

Josh Anderson

2014-05-18

Rode up it yesterday from the Mckenzie (town) side, and conditions were good to go. Several groups were also riding up from Sisters and conditions were also good to go. It's 5-10F degrees colder up top, so bring some gloves and warmers for the descent!
