Kruger's Kermesse Encore (this Sunday!): call-up list & other updates

Hi everyone!

We are just three days away from the Kruger's Kermesse Encore CX Farm Crit & Bike Relay (http://www.portlandracing.com/kermesse), so I'd like to share a couple updates and reminders that I sent out earlier today to the Portland Racing mailing list.

1) Still time to pre-register, skip the lines on Sunday, get a call-up, a complementary Rip van Wafel, and... a chance to win another Chris King bottom bracket!
That's right, you still have until 4pm tomorrow (Friday) to pre-register online (http://www.portlandracing.com/kermesse/registration.html), so all you have to do on Sunday is pick up your bib number (we'll use custom bib numbers for all races!) and you're all ready to go. All pre-registered riders will receive a call-up at the start of their race (check out the current call-up list at http://www.portlandracing.com/kermesse/call-up-list.html) and some yummy product samples courtesy of our sponsors Rip van Wafels and Larabar when they pick up their bib number. Finally, we will raffle off a second Chris King gift certificate - for a bottom bracket or headset of choice - among all racers who register online by tomorrow (the first gift certificate we raffled off earlier this week was won by Beginner Men racer Tom Valencia). Yay!

Note: If you haven't renewed your OBRA annual license yet, you will be able to purchase a discounted CX license on Sunday for just $15! This license will cover your OBRA membership from now through the end of the 2014 race season.

2) Some course updates and a course preview photos.
Earlier this week, I dropped by the farm and pre-rode the course, which will be almost identical to the course we used in spring (and that everyone was raving about). The course runs clockwise, which makes for a great flow and no sketchy corners. Overall, the course is in great shape and very fast! To get an idea of what the course will feel like, check out the course recon photos posted on flickr (https://www.flickr.com/photos/66996555@N07/sets/72157646708008785/) and the course preview video from last year (http://www.portlandracing.com/kermesse/course.html). Or just drop by on Saturday afternoon to pre-ride (we'll be setting up the course between 11 and 2pm).

Our title sponsor West End Bikes will be on site to provide free mechanical support near the registration/finish area. Like in cyclocross, water bottle hand-ups are not allowed, but you can load up your bike and jersey pockets with as much food and water as you like.

3) Kiddie races and gourmet farm food.
It's Kruger's Farm, so expect a very family-friendly and spectator-friendly event. At 11:45am, we will organize two FREE races for the kids, a short one (around the concert lawn) for the little ones and beginner kids, and a longer one (consisting of a full lap on the main course) for the expert kids and U12 juniors. Kruger's Farm Market will be catering a variety of hot foods (including roasted corn, grilled sausages & burgers, and some vegetarian options) and serving beer and other beverages, so make sure to bring cash and some good appetite!

4) Double up on fun. Sign up for the 2-person relay race!
Like in spring, we will wrap up the races with a thrilling 60-minute relay race for 2-person teams. If you already race solo, it's only $5 extra to race the relay. We'll stage the relay on a shortened 1 mile version of the course with the relay exchange area located in front of the team tents along the finish stretch. We have room for about 50 relay teams, so be smart and sign up today to reserve your slot for this fun race, which will provide a great additional interval training and get you all in shape for the start of cyclocross season!
More info: http://www.portlandracing.com/kermesse/relay.html

5) Trophies, primes, and a grand raffle!
Top-3 finishers in each category will receive some real cool medals. Even if you are not racing for a podium spot, you could still be the winner of one of our "Belgian Primes". Whenever and wherever the red, yellow and black Belgian flag gets raised (at the last corner before the finish line), the first racer who passes the flag gets awarded one of the many primes provided by our sponsors Hopworks Urban Brewery, Bob's Red Mill and Dave's Killer Bread. And, as always, it pays to stay through the end, as we will wrap up the day by raffling off some great prizes, generously provided by our title sponsor West End Bikes and all our other fantastic sponsors!

That's it. I am looking forward to seeing you on Sunday at the farm. Bring your family, bring your friends, let's celebrate summer and ring in the cross season in style!
~Kris

PS: we are still looking for a couple hands to help out on Sunday with parking management (8 to 10am), course marshaling (10 to Noon) and with tear-down (2 to 4pm). If you are available and like to volunteer (in exchange for a free race entry!), just reply to this email. We plan to fill the remaining volunteer slots on a first-come first-serve basis.
