Everything you needed to know about Double Cross this weekend!

I hope everyone has enjoyed the first two weeks of the 'cross season.
Things are really starting to heat up, though I know most of us are looking
forward to them cooling off a little. Here's all that you need to know (or
at least that I thought of) for Double Cross this weekend.

Haven't registered? Here are the links:
Saturday Registration
Sunday Registration
Day of race fee is the same as online.

We have adjusted the courses a little to avoid the goathead areas. Here
are the map links:

The Saturday course now contains a run-down (like several years ago). It's
a little uncommon, but the best way to squeeze a little length out of the
course and avoid the thorns.

*Food*
New local restaurant the Ravens Nest will be on site with an early morning
breakfast menu and sandwiches throughout the day. They'll have coffee and
other drinks, as well.

*Tents*
We'll have a couple of places set aside for team tents. No fees, but first
come, first served. You're welcome to leave them in place overnight. I
wouldn't worry too much about security, but you might consider the wind
forecast.

*Series-es*
Saturday Double Cross is race #3 of the GPRT. Will the leaders jerseys
change shoulders or will the top riders be consolidating their positions?
Sunday Double Cross is race #1 of the Oregon JCS and High School race
series. Come out and support the next generation!
Both events count for the annual early season series to earn call-ups at
the first Crusade race (Alpenrose). Top ten riders on both days get points
(all fields except Beginners). Top five at the end of the series will get
call-ups. The series has expanded this year. Qualifying events are:
Saturday Double Cross
Sunday Double Cross
Zaaldercross
Battle at Barlow
the final series standings from Blind Date at the Dairy
and
the final series standings from the Bend Thrilla Cross

*Call-ups/start order*
Saturday call-ups will be based on GPRT standings.
Sunday call-ups will be based on the Saturday results.
Sunday start order will flip the Masters B 35+ and the Masters 50+. Old
farts start first.
Singlespeed and Cat B's will flip for it.

*T-shirts*
We'll have a limited number of Double Cross shirts for sale. $15 each. On
Saturday, you can also pick up a GPRT t-shirt.

*Juniors*
We'll be running the full slate of Junior categories both days, using JCS
categories and start order.

For the youngest kids (3-6 or so), we have the Kiddie Kross event both
days. We'll have a little course and will run heats based on type of
bike/age. All participants will get a medal and a cookie from Packer's
Cookie Stop. Best of all - we have authentic cheerleaders from HRVHS to
support the littlest racers!

The in-between kids (7-9 or so) will ride one guided partial lap of the
course both days. This will be at 12:20, *either right before the Junior
start or right after the final group*, depending on the choice of the
judges. Please listen for the announcement regarding the start order.
(Without
sounding like a jerk, please be realistic about what your little Nys/Vos
can really ride. Insisting that your child can ride the race course on
his/her strider is dangerous and puts the promoter in a really awkward
position. This isn't Little League, for goodness sakes; it's supposed to
be fun!)

*Prizes*
26 categories three deep for two days means, like, a whole bunch of
prizes. Some cash for the A's, gift cards from great local businesses like
Double Mountain Taproom, Doppio Coffee, Pfriem Brewing, and Silverado
jewelry, as well as cookies from Packers Cookies Stop, and ribbons. Whew!

*Final notes*
Please:
leave your booze at home
keep your dog on a leash (preferably in the parking lot)
bring your OBRA card to registration
do not ride on the track
don't pee in the bushes
and
try to stay away from the dirt access area by the baseball fields. That's
where the goatheads thorns are.

Whew! I think that's it. Email me back with any other questions and, as
always,

Hope to see you in the Hood!
