Advice for Junior OBRA diabetic racer

This is the Harts, paging any racing diabetics in OBRA-land that might be willing to share your experience on diabetes-management while riding/racing with a type 1 diabetic junior OBRA racer. She is almost 11 years old, one of our team members, and already active and doing well in OBRA races. Her parents are very involved and proactive in all of this but find that the strenuous nature of bicycle racing sometimes makes it difficult to differentiate between the physical (and emotional) torture we all feel out there on the course and what is unique to her diabetes-related challenges. We know there are books available, and there are even some great diabetic cycling-specific resources that become available to her by age 15, but that is over four years away, and there is nothing like the personal voice of experience to help keep her involved in the meantime.

If you are a diabetic OBRA racer and are willing to share your experience and/or are interested in an informal racing-diabetic support/information group, please stop by our (Hapi-Go!) tent at any race or reply to me privately so we can connect.
