Tandem in Clydesdale Championship of the Universe.

It appears the conversations on all pages have been deleted at this point;
probably for the best, as there was a LOT of vitriol being passed around
based on misinformation/misunderstanding.

Ernest Gagnon is taking it way too seriously, I tried pointing out that the Clydesdale Universe Championship was just a fun event but he likened it to being racist. Essentially his belief of having a Clydesdale cat would be the same as creating a cat for people of a certain race.

It's really too bad, I support what he is doing having been over 300 pounds earlier In life (anyone who's been around OBRA for a few years remembers how obese I was) but he is way to emotional and sensitive to everyone, especially those who support him.

Oh and he un-friended/blocked me on Facebook for trying to talk about what the event really is.

My 2 cents on his views.

So they are thinking this is that serious when the word 'universe' is used
in the title?

Let's a go back to discussing canceled races, non OBRA events, or get more
info on Erik's donut habit.

Um, isn't the title "clydesdales" already mocking the weight of a person?
What about the little guys riding with a 50+ pound backpack? Also
offensive? I thought clydes was supposed to be fun.

I have only participated once in Clydes, in that night race in Bend. It
was far from serious, the only CX race where I've actually drank beer and
ate donuts. There are already age based categories, in addition to A, B, C
categories for the serious folks to work their way up the ranks and compete
at the level they desire.

So my take is someone may be taking things a little to seriously. Lighten
up!

There is a discussion about this on Facebook at 'Ernest Gagnon - The Cyclist' and 'Ernest Gagnon' pages. Ernest and others, including some at the race were offended by the slur of 2 smaller riders on a Tandem == Clydesdale. I said my piece over there.

What's peoples take on this and how can we be more welcoming to all.
I think it was an honest mistake but can see why others are offended by it.

Thanks, Neil.
