Hello, fellow OBRA racers!

We are just over two weeks away from the 9th edition of the Kruger's Crossing Cyclocross Classic (http://www.portlandracing.com/cx), so time for some updates!

This year, the "Mother of all Farm Races" and Portland's perennial cyclocross season closer will take place on Sunday November 23th, just one week after the final Cross Crusade race. Since it will be the only race that weekend, you can rest assured it will be another fun edition for racers and spectators (and dogs) alike!

1) Pre-register today to enjoy a call-up and a chance to win in our weekly pre-reg raffle!
Save time and money on race day by pre-registering for your race. All pre-registered riders will get a start line call-up in the order they've registered. In addition, all riders who pre-register will be entered in our weekly pre-reg raffle. Every week until race day, we will raffle off a real nice prize among all racers who have pre-registered. In other words, the earlier you register, the more chances you have to win a prize. Men C racer Marc Heisterkamp was the winner of last week's drawing for a Chris King bottom bracket of choice. This week, we'll raffle off a $150 Showers Pass gift certificate among all racers who have pre-registered by end-of-day today (Saturday Nov 8). And we've got more great prizes lined up for the next two weeks!

2) Schedule and Race Course.
The race schedule will be very similar to the Cross Crusade schedule, with one exception: to allow our clean-up crew and officials to wrap up things before darkness, we will have the Men B and Singlespeeders race earlier in the day. (Added bonus: they will also get a chance to start partying a little earlier than usual). The race course will be similar to last year's and will lead you through berry fields, pastures, a barn, along rutted farm roads, a bonfire, a chicken coop, and a giant pig named Mathilda. In good tradition, racers will get to tackle (or bunny-hop) the "Kruger's Six Pack" and the ever-popular hay bale barrier, plus who knows what other crazy farm obstacles our course design crew will come up with.

3) Doggie Dash CX World Championships - presented by Portland Design Works!
The Kruger's Doggie Dash has been a hit with dogs, dog owners and spectators alike since its inception in 2008. This year we are turning the crazy canine stampede (on-leash and sans bikes) into a fundraiser for The Pixie Project, by asking participants for a voluntary $5 donation. Like previous years, we'll have cool prizes for the top finisher in each category and for the three most original dog attires!

4) Gourmet coffee, yummy food, free kids races, free HUB beer samples, and other goodies!
In the morning, Kruger's Farm Market will greet racers with free Nossa Familia coffee and, later in the day, their food stand will serve corn-on-the-cob and a variety of other grilled goodies. Around noon, Hopworks Urban Brewing will come out to serve free samples of their much-acclaimed Abominable Winter Ale and some other HUB classics. At 12:20pm, we will stage three FREE kids cross races, staggered by skill level. Weather and course conditions permitting, the "Expert Kids" will get to race one full lap on the regular course. And all kids will receive some yummy goodies at the finish line!

Talking about goodies... besides the prize purse for Cat A riders, we'll have a ton of cool prizes - donated by our generous sponsors -that we will raffle off randomly throughout the day among all racers.
In addition, our presenting sponsor West End Bikes is offering all racers 15% off on any bike apparel, accessories and bike parts they have in stock! Just visit their store (located at 1111 SW Stark Street in Portland) and show a print or electronic copy of this posting at the sales counter.
(Note: This offer is good throughout end of November. The discount does not apply towards bikes or out-of-stock items and can not be combined with other discounts)

5) Volunteer and race for free!
We are still in need of volunteers to help out on Sunday with parking, course marshaling, registration and tear-down. If you are interested in helping out in exchange for a free race entry, just reply to me via email.

That's it for now. As we get closer to race day, I will provide another email update about the final course design and any other important day-of-race logistics.

In the meantime, mark your calendar, spread the word with friends and family, and count down to a fun-filled fall day at the farm!

Have a great weekend and see you around at the races!

~Kris
