Matt Mallet
I don't do every race, but the three CC races I did this year (Alpenrose II, Deschutes II and PIR) all started the 50+ first.
I do race everyone, unfortunately passing 30-40 racers in the 50+ field doesn't get me any closer to getting a callup or upgrade points.
My point is not to disrespect the 50+ field as there are some very fast guys there and it is also a large category, but pointing out the demographics change from
year to year and at this point the 50+ (consistently 70-75 riders) and the B masters (consistently 100-120 racers) are by far the
largest race and it may be worth considering some different field combination for next year.
Just a few numbers from the last 3 CC races
PIR B 35+/50+/60 = 198 starters
Deschutes II: 180 starters
Deschutes I: 208 starters
as a comparison:
Cat C/Clydesdales for the same 3 races,
135, 96, 91
The 35+ C for the same 3 races
135, 76, 91
Aside from the A field, who should get their own race no matter what, it would seem to make sense
to try to divide the other categories so the races are about the same size. In general this is the case,
except for one race which is twice as big as all the others.
