Thanks much Dan.
Yes it is OK to do something outside of the OBRA umbrella..........like even
racing up in Washington to acquire USAC or UCI points.....or doing an alley
cat race/ ride.
Support them people! They are not doing it for profit, but to create a
place where "you" can ride!

Subject: [OBRA Chat] The Inaugural Gateway Green CX Race! Tomorrow!

Hey all,
I'm throwing this out for a friend who helped with organization and getting
Gateway Green off the ground.
If you're unaware of Gateway Green, check it out here:
http://www.gatewaygreenpdx.org/

If you do know [or you literally just found out via the link I shared] and
you don't already have CX race plans for tomorrow, consider checking this
out. Exhibition style (aka super fun) race at Gateway Green with proceeds
supporting the development of that island between 84 and 205 for off-road
riding and hiking. Anyhow, it's a cool project, good cause, and should be a
fun day. If you're not busy, I recommend it.

Details below:

Please join us at Gateway Green on Saturday November 15 for Gateway Green
Community CX a family friendly cyclocross exhibition race.

The organizers have designed a dynamic course with plenty of great
observation areas to entertain the whole crowd. There'll also be Kiddie
Cross activities just for the kiddos!
[For those not familiar with cyclocross, take a look at
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyclo-cross]
The race is an exhibition only, meant to be fun and casual. No OBRA points
will be earned. For your $20 entry fee, you'll have the chance to race in
the first cyclocross race at Gateway Green.
Race participants will also be entered into a raffle for prizes! Spectators
can buy raffle tickets, too.
Prizes have been donated by Western Bike Works, the Mountain Shop, Nutcase,
Gracie's Wrench, Rapha, River City Bicycles, the Lumberyard, CyclePath, Velo
Cult, Breadwinner, Portland Design Works, Bicycle Times Magazine, Filmed by
Bike, Chris King and BavaBici -- with more coming in every day.
All race entry fees will go directly toward the Build Gateway Green capital
campaign to fund the first phase of development of the park.

The day's schedule:

9:00 AM - Registration begins
10:00 AM - Welcome Announcement
10:10 AM - Kiddie Cross opens (remains open throughout the day)
10:10 AM - Men's C (45 min)

Event parking is available at The Oregon Clinic, next to the Gateway Transit
Center; please use the parking entrance at 1111 NE 99th Ave.
Food will be available from the Taco Pedaler, a bike food cart. Build
Gateway Green t-shirts will be available ($15) at the Friends of Gateway
Green tent.

Note that this will be a car-free cyclocross event. All race equipment and
other supplies will be transported to the race site by bike/cargo bike/bike
trailer/hand truck.
