River View Natural Area: GO RIDE IT NOW

I guess we will see what happens now. Are we going to have off road riders protesting (as in this is a major PO) for several days then burning out on it because they just want to go ride, or hold steady and keep the pressure on by continuing to exert pressure for more off road riding by attending meetings, volunteering and contacting appropriate government and agency officials at important times. In my opinion, it is best to keep the pressure on our elected and appointed people in a firm and courteous manner. If we blow up and act like six year olds melting down....well they will view us like children not getting their way. I was under the impression limited biking was a designated part of Riverview area, but it appears that is not the case based on time / study of usage.
I hope a bunch of loose cannons (similar to the idiots who got caught building illegal trail in Forest Park a few years back) do not destroy all of the respect and good relationships that have been and are being developed by many in the off road riding community with governments and agencies. Be calm and nice when you communicate with people. We are making progress, but there are many powerful people and groups who think bikes and their riders do not belong anywhere in a park or forest. If we act crazy, that just gives them more influence and lessens our ability (as a group) to make progress. Portland Parks is just one of the governments with green spaces. Do not let a setback with them damage our relationships with Metro, BLM, State of Oregon, US Forest Service and others. Show them all we have got it together, not hot heads. And when you do go out and ride....think about shredding without ripping areas apart and running over people etc. Perception of an activity or group of people can be a very strong factor in decisions made regarding those activities / groups.
The future is in our court at the moment this upcoming closure was announced. How are we going approach this?

To all of us that spend hours working on reducing the impact of the
trails in this area this is an insult. Someone must be fired over this
nonsense.
