2015 Franz Bakery Criterium UPDATES

Charles Warner

2015-07-30

This is the sixth year for this race at this location and we are
excited to bring criterium racing to Portland's Central Eastside.
While the Franz Bakery is very supportive of this event, please keep
in mind that this area is a major production facility for them and
they are adjusting their schedule and truck routes to accommodate this
special event. Please be courteous to all bakery employees and
cooperate when asked. We look forward to hosting this event for
several years in the future.

*Sponsors*

Thank you to our sponsors: Franz Bakery, Portland Rock Gym, Burnside
Brewing, Camille Hook Massage, TFK Wheels and Castelli. Without the
support of these sponsors and the cooperation of all the neighbors
along the course, this race would not be possible. Thank you!

*Course Report*

The course is 1.13km long, features 8-corners and 40 of vertical
climbing. Corners 3, 4 and 5 form a quick S type turn that sweeps
downhill. The roads are wide and the pavement is fair. After corner 5,
the descent is shallow before corner 6 where the course changes to a
shallow climb. There is a new turn 7 and 8. We turn at NE 8th instead
of
NE 9th. At corner 7, the road goes upward in a modest hill toward
corner 8 and the finish straight. The finish line will be a two block
dash from corner 8.

There are few rough spots on the road and some areas that will be marked.

There are questionable spots on NE 11th between Flanders and Glisan.
The pavement is cracked in several locations, but certainly rideable.
In corner one, the race course will narrow to accommodate working
vehicles parked by New Systems Laundry on NE 11th.

*Post Race Food*

Burnside Brewery is located 1 block off the bike course near Corner 6.
They are big supporters of the event and we recommend you try their
food and drink!

See you Saturday,
