SUBJECT: Travel Oregon Workshops for Bike Tour Guides/Operators in Bend &
Ashland

Hoping all is well in your neck of the woods!

The Destination Development Team at Travel Oregon (Kristin Dahl, Harry
Dalgaard, Staj Pace, and Elena Vizzini) is kindly requesting your
attendance for an upcoming training for recreational *Tour Operators,
Guides & Outfitters*.

Travel Oregon’s work in tourism development has helped in identifying and
creating world-class travel assets throughout the state. While the rest of
the U.S. will scramble to catch-up to changing travel trends, Oregon’s work
today will set the stage to meet the needs of the traveler for the next few
decades.

While there has been incredible work already accomplished in Oregon, there
is still work to be done to inspire and support travel companies to meet
the increasing demand of the modern traveler. A vibrant travel destination
needs both new and creative energy to keep the industry fresh and
innovative, and for existing businesses to stay connected to current trends
and resources.

This workshop series has been designed to bring value to a diverse group of
participants: prospective entrepreneurs, existing companies seeking
enhanced skills, outfitters and guides, and some non-tourism businesses
with crossover potential.

The workshops and trainings are designed to:

· Improve & grow your outdoor business

· Meet federal and state land managers

· Increase your knowledge of the tourism industry in Oregon

· Discuss key business development initiatives, opportunities, and
priorities

· Provide networking opportunities with a group of peers

For more information about the workshops please consult the remainder of
this email, or the registration pages:

*WORKSHOP 1: **Connecting your business to the world: Understanding and
attracting the international and high-value traveler.*

Not all travelers bring the same value to the region they visit. For small-
and medium-sized businesses, it’s more effective to spend limited marketing
dollars attracting higher-value customers by aligning your work with
statewide efforts.

This professional development workshop will focus on high impact sales and
marketing methods. You will have access to the expertise of the sales and
marketing team at Travel Oregon. Through panel discussions and hands-on
activities, you’ll understand the state’s international “brand” and how to
harness resources to connect to the global supply chain.

*Key Takeaways: *

· Strategies to connect to global supply chain

· Attracting media and PR

· Product development for international travelers

· High impact marketing methods

*WORKSHOP 2: ** Navigating Permitting, and Setting up Successful
Operations.*

Demand for Adventure Travel and recreation is growing faster than other
segments in the travel industry. Oregon is naturally poised to benefit from
this trend and is working with stakeholders to take full advantage. To meet
this new demand, new businesses will be formed and existing businesses will
expand their offerings. For outfitters, guides and tour operators,
expansion can be more complicated: Public lands require specific permits;
specialized insurance is required for new activities; expanded
fleets require additional management.

This professional development workshop will give you: access to managers
from all public land agencies in Oregon, an understanding of protocol for
emergency response, and a look at these demands through the lens of
increased demand for customer service.

*Key Takeaways:*

· How to understand and obtain required permits and licenses

· Designing and implementing an Emergency Response Plan (ERP)

· Creating risk management protocol

· Properly insuring your operation

· Vehicle/equipment certification and maintenance best practices

*DATES:*

· October 28-29, 2015 in Bend, OR. Details and RSVP.

· November 18-19, 2015 in Ashland, OR. Details and RSVP.

*TIME*:

- 9:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day

*LOCATION:*

- DoubleTree Hotel – Bend, OR.
- Ashland Springs Hotel – Ashland, OR

*FOOD & DRINK:*

· Morning pastries and a catered lunch will be provided daily

· Coffee, tea and water will be available throughout the workshops

· A hosted networking reception will be provided at the end of
each workshop day
