It is results like this that urge me to request that obra members who ride on dirt (even just cross courses) to join your local trail advocacy group. Physical help is wonderful, but just being a member is huge. Just like OBRA...keep your membership current.

Falls Creek Reroute a Major Victory for Mountain Bikers

If you’re a mountain biker, it sometimes feels like we are on the wrong end of every outcome where trail access is concerned.

But the recent approval of a reroute at Falls Creek is evidence that hope is still alive.

The U.S. Forest Service recently approved a plan that will transform the Falls Creek trail. Led by Paul Norris – with key support from Andy Crump, Andy Jansky, and Jerry de Ruyter – this plan will eliminate 1.5 miles of gravel and add 3.5 miles of sterling single-track.

“It’s taken five years, two land managers, and several trips to walk, flag, and GPS the new route to make it a reality,” Crump said.

In addition to Norris, Jansky, and de Ruyter, Crump gave props to Dean Robertson (USFS Trout Lake Office) for supporting the plan and to Crestline Construction for paying for the NEPA study.

Hands-on work will commence Friday, October 9, and continue through Sunday, October 11. “We’ll be clearing the line to prep it for dirt work,” Crump said.

If you are available to help on any of these days, contact Jerry D by text or phone call at 360.910.0647.

Crump said the new plan represents a major upgrade. “There will be a killer flow section through the woods with great views of Mount Hood and Mount St. Helens.”

Gaining new trail access is not the same as making instant pudding. Patience and resolve are required if we’re going to move forward. Thanks to everyone who made this possible.
