Dan,
You da man.
Thank you for a most true and right on post.
The Crusade is unique, as is Brad and PIR. But Kruger's is a wonderful
race..........mud or dry! Brad retires, we do not and Brad would not want
us to retire. He loves this Cross stuff!
I was shocked, (to hear the official "last race" announcement) but not.
Brad and I have talked some, but every person makes life decisions. Brad
took the Cross Crusade to another level than when it was first envisioned.
He took it and Oregon Cross to the top for a reason, like cream rising in
milk. I personally thank him....and to be honest, the National Bike Racing
Community should THANK HIM for his vision and most important, enthusiasm,
organizational skills and magnetic personality. He would be the first to
also thank all of the Crusade Team and us as racers.
That said. We still have a chance to thank him however people can figure
out coming up at the Awards Night. I know my wife Dorothy could easily
thank him for getting me out of her space for short times (or have me be the
envoy of such thanks). Let the ideas begin for how we might devise our own
awards night. Although I do believe these thanks should not take away from
the actual awards for racers (at least in general).....we can give Brad
sweet little cards soaked in beer or such.

What I hope comes from these changes is a positive, creative morphing of the
Cross Crusade as Brad exits. I hope those involved over the years step up
and take on the burden of making this important part of the OBRA community
continue to be there for all of the old-timers like Dan, and the beginners
in the Fall of 16. Community needs to acknowledge it's history and heroes,
but continue on to create the next generation of same. This is an age old
custodial / artist tradition that bridges to Cyclocross in a seamless
manner.
So......not to name names...but, Myers, Kic, Potestio, Beardsley, Blair,
Wilson, and others including Witty...............You guys...........talk to
each other and smooth out this change with Brad in a manner that is the Best
for the many....not just the few. If any of you want to exit with Brad, I
totally understand, but I do hope there is a dedicated group who can work
together to keep this crucial part of Oregon Bicycle Racing alive. Call it
what you want, but the basic vibe that ONLY the Crusade Provides needs to
still be a key part of the Oregon Cyclocross Season. You key people are the
ones who will be able to keep it speaking the same language to us racers and
all the friends and family we manage to get out to see the amazing
environment of this series. Other series are just find and dandy (please do
not go away other promoters), but the crusade is the Grail of Cross. It
provides the most amazing competition, but keeps the family and fun as a key
part.
BRAD ROSS. THANK YOU FOR DOING SO MUCH FOR SO MANY AND TREATING ME WITH
RESPECT! TAKE CARE OF YOU AND YOUR FAMILY.

Today's race scene was epic. I have been racing CX since 1979 including
several nationals and this was among the top 2 or 3 ever.
Super snotty conditions for our race (50+) and I love the PIR venue. The
atmosphere is like a NW cyclocross medieval bazaar market. The enthusiasm
of the crowd was infectious.
Congratulations to Brad Ross clocking out of Cross Crusade promotion. It's
been a year of a lot of changes and this is just another one.
See you at Kruger's!
