North Tualatin Mountains Community Event, Nov. 17 - in related news...

Matthew Weintraub

2015-11-18

Hi all,

Thanks again to every single one of you that came out in support of this
project tonight. There were many vocal and angry neighbors from FPNA that
were not in favor of any form of recreation in 'their' backyard, but
mountain bike and recreation advocates in attendance made a great
impression on Metro staffers and officials with their measured, respectful
input. Just top notch stuff!

If anyone missed the meeting and would like to provide comments, the best
way is to e-mail them to naturalareas@oregonmetro.gov

Once again, here is the meeting info with a pdf attachment of the proposed
plan.

Cheers!

Chris, All,
The meeting went well. Yes there were a good number of FPNA members there, but an equal number of people in support of the proposed trails etc. I know there will be some sort of open comment period. If nothing else people can easily just go to the METRO website and look up any info. you want about the North Tual. Plan. There may be a place there you can comment! You can also identify the Metro Councilor who represents the area where you live.....send them an email stating your support for the plan. Any positive comments regarding the plan are good.
Of course I don’t know for sure, but I expect all the trail proposed to be built. This will allow the biking community to show how committed we are to supporting Metro doing the right thing for human population livability while sustaining wildlife habitat. Their mission is to protect these areas but also allow access. Allowing access is how people learn to love nature. Bikers love being in the natural environment. We do not want to destroy it....and that will become apparent. If I get any info. to share I will so people stay informed. Remember. There are many ways to be a supporter of trail access.
Thanks all for caring.

Would there be like a petition of some sort we could sign to show support of cycling usages, in case we can't attend in person?

"FPNA Moves Regular Meeting

From Jerry, FPNA President

Metro is hosting a public meeting about its North Tualatin Mountains planning effort next Tuesday, Nov. 17, from 6:30 to 8:30 PM at the Skyline School. This is the same date as the FPNA regular meeting. Because the Metro decisions about developing these four large properties just north and west of Forest Park are important to our neighborhood, we decided to move the FPNA meeting to the Skyline School so our members could attend both meetings. The Metro Open House begins as 6:30 PM in the school gymnasium. The FPNA meeting will be a short board meeting beginning at 8:00 PM in the cafeteria or library (to be announced later).

Please come to the Metro meeting. While all four tracts will be improved for wildlife habitat, the current development proposals target two of the parcels for extensive trail development, including single-track bike trails, parking and other amenities. Our neighborhood needs to weigh in on the proposals. We supported the natural area bond measures that provided the funding for these Metro acquisitions, and we need to let Metro know whether or not we support the direction of their planning effort.

Thank you!

Straight from the mouth of the FPNA, they are planning to stack the Metro event, so it will be especially important for the cycling community to provide a rational, visible contingent of MTB supporters to counter the nay-sayers.
