Portland Metro Off road riders.

The Riverview Natural Area (RVNA) Master Plan mentioned below was voted on yesterday by the Portland City Council. You can go to https://www.portlandoregon.gov/video/player/?tab=council and go in to about 1 hr. 20-30 min. of testimony to pick up on the discussion which goes until the vote at 2:40- something. It is educational and shows that Andy’s words below are accurate. The Off-Road Master Plan will be the huge “Next Step” that will set wheels in motion. We off road riders, young and old, need to step up to make sure we show the whole Portland community that we not only ride, but will help build and take care of where we ride when needed. We are closer today to having real single-track in the city limits so we can ride to where we ride, not be forced to “drive to ride”.

Thanks to all the OBRA members who have joined NWTA, and to IMBA who has not only helped region-wide, but been in the mix for support working with the City and Metro. Going that extra mile for others put you in the elite cat. Our increasing number of voices are making a difference. Every one of us is important.

I see families getting to ride off-road in the city’s future and that is what Parks, Livability, Sustainability needs to be for Portland.

Andy. Go out and get a good ride in the first chance you get. You and the others who have worked so hard (there are so many of you) deserve good times on the bike.

"I think the handling of RVNA will be seen as a pivotal event in the future of off road cycling. It galvanized NWTA and helped us double our membership, changed public opinion and on January 14, 2016 we found two champions on council in the form of Mayor Hales and Commissioner Novick. By having the parks director pledge on the record that off road cycling has a place on the "broad shoulders" of Portland Parks, we have changed the conversation and finally moved from the kid table to the adult table. It will no longer be acceptable to make land management decisions in Portland Parks without considering off-road cycling. I am also confident that with the Mayor's leadership and Commissioner Novick's strong commitment to watching over the process moving forward there will not be a repeat of the missteps and broken promises of the past. We are looking forward to measurable progress, rebuilding bridges and to the time when we can turn out hundreds https://vimeo.com/97697269 of dedicated volunteers to build, maintain and patrol trails for Portland."
