Portland International Raceway. Separate categories for beginners and
advanced cyclists offered for racing on a flat, closed, car-free circuit.

WHAT:
River City Bicycles and Laurelwood Brewing Company present the Monday
Nights Bike Race Series beginning April 11 and lasting through August 29
(no racing July 4). Races are held at Portland International Raceway in
North Portland on a flat, closed, car-free circuit. Separate categories for
beginners to more advanced cyclists, including Novice (ages 14 and up),
Women (any age), and Masters Men (ages 30+). The race series is a great
opportunity for novice-level riders to learn bike racing basics with free
clinics throughout the season. Fast and fun racing for everyone. All you

5:00 - Registration Opens
5:30 - Free Rider Clinic – See Clinic Information Area
6:15 - Novice Open (ages 14 and up, Men and Women)
6:25 - Women Category 4 & 5 (all ages)
6:35 - Women Category 1, 2 & 3 (all ages)
6:40 - Masters Men Category 1, 2 & 3 (Ages 30+)
6:45 - Masters Men Category 4 & 5 (Ages 30+)

COURSE/DISTANCES:
The course is a flat and wide 1.9-mile (3.05 km) loop with excellent
quality pavement.
The circuit is closed to all car traffic. Distance varies each week,
depending on daylight available, field size, and weather, but will average
10-15 miles (Novice), 20-30 miles (Women), 20-40 miles (Masters Men). Exact
distance and laps are announced at the start.

REGISTRATION:
Online registration is available via AthletePath. Register up to the 15
minutes prior to the start of your race on your phone instead of waiting in

Once registered, please briefly check in with registration in person to let
us know you have arrived.

Registration area opens at 5:00 PM, and is located at start/finish area in
the middle of the track, opposite the main grandstand. An Oregon Bicycle
Racing Association (OBRA) license is required to race and is $5
(single-day) or $30 (annual). OBRA licenses at available at the race or at
www.obra.org. OBRA 2016 cloth numbers will be used and placement will
alternate between left and right side each week. The season series will
start (April 11) with numbers on the right.

PRIZES:
Points are accumulated each night in all categories. Monthly prizes are
awarded based on finish and hot spot points. Nightly gift certificate
prizes will be offered in selected categories and will be announced at the
start. Leader Jerseys are from Castelli and are awarded each month to Women
Category 4 & 5; Women Category 1, 2 & 3; Masters Category 4 & 5; and
Masters Category 1, 2 & 3. Prizes are gift certificates (awarded each month
and in all categories) from River City Bicycles and Laurelwood Brewing
Company.

TEAM PRIZE:
Let’s Go Team! Show some team spirit and come out to PIR this Summer!
Support your teammates at all levels in the competition for the Castelli
Team Prize. The Team Prize is $1,000 for the team with the most collective
points—across all categories—for a month. The prize will be awarded
twice—once in July and once in August. Teams are encouraged to enter as
many racers as they can in all levels to increase chances of winning
points. Racers will be in peak condition by mid-summer, so get ready for a
fierce battle for the winner-takes-all prize! Thanks to Castelli for the
support of this fantastic team prize! The prize will be awarded at the end
of July and the end of August and will be issued directly from Castelli to
the winning Team.

RULES:
Approved helmets are required. All OBRA Racing Rules apply. No aero bars
allowed. OBRA and the organizers of this race do not provide insurance
coverage for injuries that occur at the race. The costs related to those
injuries are the responsibility of the individual participant.

Portland International Raceway Rules and Regulations:
In accordance with FAA regulations, PIR does not permit the use of Unmanned
Aircraft Systems for any type of commercial photography or videography at
any time at the facility. Pets are allowed at PIR. Please consider event
noise before bringing pets that may be sensitive to loud sounds. Dogs must
be on a leash at all times. Owners take full responsibility for their pets.
Alcohol may only be purchased on site from the PIR-contracted food and
service vendor, Ovations. Outside alcohol is prohibited from all PIR
property. All Portland city parks (including PIR), recreation areas, and
natural areas are smoke free.

CLINICS:
Introduction to Racing Clinics:
Never tried bicycle racing and always wanted to see what it was all about?
Want to learn about the basics and more? Come join us for a FREE quick and
concise clinic at 5:30 p.m. before the start of the novice race on the
first racing Monday of each month, May through August (May 2, June 6, July
11, and August 1).

Clinics are organized using expert coaches and instructors from Wenzel
Coaching. We will cover group riding basics, assist with number pinning,
and walk you through a typical race at PIR. If time permits, we will teach
tricks for saving energy, riding predictably and smoothly, and safely
maneuvering in the pack. Coaches will be available after the novice race to
answer questions. There are no clinics in the April series.

TRY BIKE RACING:
This season, in partnership with OBRA, Monday Night Race Series is offering
a deal for new racers rolling up to the start for the first time. On May 2,
June 6, July 11, and August 1, we will waive the one-day OBRA membership
fee of $5. (Standard entry fee of $15 still applies.)
