Hello fellow OBRA racers,

Last Monday, we kicked off the 12th edition of the Portland Short Track Series in high gear. We counted more than 300 racers (plus another 20 kids racers), the course rocked, and noticed a lot of smiles on and off the course. Thanks to everyone who came out to race and a special welcome to all the riders who raced short track for the very first time! From the great action shots posted by our series photographer Victor Duong (at https://www.flickr.com/photos/42573615@N03/sets/72157666720833004), it is obvious that everyone had a blast and we hope you are all ready for more!

Here are some updates ahead of tomorrow's Short Track race # 2:

1) Results & Team standings.
Results of race # 1 and series standings have been posted on OBRA. Best 7 out of 8 races will count towards the individual series standings, so still time to get your act together and start picking up points! And don't forget our team competition, which will tally each team's best 6 placings at each race

2) Call-up list for today's races.
Check out the call-up list for race # 2, with the 189 racers who purchased a series pass and will enjoy a start-line call-up each week:
http://www.portlandracing.com/call-up-list-2016-06-13.html

Please note that you will still be able to purchase a series pass (at the reduced rate of $130 for adults and $50 for juniors) tomorrow and get your name added to the call-up list for the rest of the series.

3) Our first batch of weekly raffle winners!
Even if you are not a contender for the podium, you still make a chance each week to be victorious in our popular weekly raffle.
Winners of our first week's raffle are posted at http://www.portlandracing.com/weekly-raffle.html

4) Race plates & upgrades.
If you raced last week, make sure to bring back your race plate and re-use the pipe-cleaners. Also, a reminder to always use 3 pipe cleaners to attach your plate and to position your plate in front of any brake/shifter cables (for maximum readability). If you plan to upgrade or change category at any time during the series, you will have to request a new plate at registration. If you forget or lose your plate, you will have to purchase a new plate at registration (cost: $5).

Also a reminder that every week, Elaine Bothe and Andrew Coe from Wenzel Coaching will provide free Short Track Clinics before the races, from 5 to 6pm. This is a great way to familiarize yourself with the course, hone your bike handling/racing skills, and learn from two Elite racers.
And don't forget that throughout the duration of the series, all short track racers get to enjoy a $2.50 "first beer" special on Monday nights at the Hopworks Bike Bar (on N Williams Ave).

That's it. Tomorrow, we're supposed to get treated on some cooler temps, we'll change up the course (including some new lines on the motocross track), and we hope to see you all out at PIR for another night of Short Track fun!

Cheers!
~Kris

PS: registrations are coming in steadily for the Six Hours of Mt Hood, which will take place on Sunday July 3 (less than a month away!) at the Mt Hood Skibowl mountain resort. The snow is all gone and the course is in great shape, so it promises to be another great edition.
First 200 riders who pre-register receive a free commemorative pint glass, so don't wait around and register today at http://www.portlandracing.com/6hrs/registration.html
