Helmet Discussion

Research MIPS, ODS suspension, and Koroyd technologies. MIPS can be
found on many helmets. The other two are found on specific
manufacturers' helmets. All of these are newer and it is easier to
find marketing hype than science backing the claims.

Have you considered full face? At Sandy Ridge you can either carry it up
the road or wear a different helmet and swap when you come down as long as
you have a pack that holds helmets well.

Or, many of us have had good luck with the Bell Super 2R. Removable chin
bar and great coverage even without the chin bar.

I had a previous TBI, not as traumatic as yours - but I bought a Giro XEN for MTB racing - and although it has much greater head coverage it's quite comfortable so now I end up wearing it for road use too - except racing (or really hot rides.). I've thought about a MIPS helmet but don't need a new one yet, maybe next round.

In my previous off topic post at the very end I asked about helmet
suggestions. Seeing how I have a compromised skull now that they cracked me
open and cut a bit of my brain out my fiancé wants me to get the best,
safest, most protective helmet out there. I will need one for mountain
biking (95% Sandy Ridge type riding) and one for road/cross.

Clearly understanding that everyone’s head, sizing, fit, is different I am
sure there will be lots of opinions. I have been a Giro helmet guy for
years as they seem to fit me best. I have not kept up on the other various
options out there so just looking for additional research.

Thanks for the info!
