Hi, everyone!

This Monday we are wrapping up the 2016 Portland Short Track Series, after 8 weeks of some very exciting racing! Like in years past, we plan to go out with a bang and we hope you will be able to join us for our Short Track Grand Finale (http://www.portlandracing.com/short-track-finale-2016.html), which promises to be another night of sheer bike race fun.

Here are a couple updates ahead of Monday's final night of short track madness:

1) Holeshot winners, results of race # 7, series standings, and another batch of kick-ass race photos.
Last Monday's "Pedal to the Metal" Holeshot Night again delivered big time! Check out the full list of 22 ultra-fast boys and girls who took the Holeshot in their category and rode home with a $20 Cyclepath gift certificate, a Short Track pint glass, and bragging rights for the next 12 months

Note: Best 7 races out of 8 will count towards the overall and the results of the final race will determine the ranking among racers with equal amount of points. We have a lot of categories where the final podium is still undecided, so expect to witness some exciting races on Monday!

2) Still time to pre-register online for Monday's races and save $5 off your entry fee!
Our last night of the series always enjoys high attendance and a record number of racers and - looking at the great race weather we have in the forecast for Monday - this year won't be an exception. To alleviate the lines at the registration desk, we strongly recommend to pre-register online (by Saturday), save money and time on Monday (the pre-reg race fee has been discounted to just $20 for adult racers, #10 for juniors), and provide some relief to our registration crew.

And if you miss the online registration deadline, you can still pay at the race on Monday, from 4:30pm on (we now accept credit cards at no charge!).

3) Get ready for the 2016 "Ultra Short Track" Team Relay Race...
Like in years past, we will stage an all-for-fun team relay race on the motocross track, right after we're done with the regular races. This year, we have lined up 25 teams of 10 racers who each will get to race one lap. Since we will only use the motocross track, the laps will be ultra-short, ultra-fast and ultra-fun to race and/or watch!

4) ... and our Grand Series Awards & Raffle!
In good tradition, we will close the night and wrap up the series with unique awards for the overall top-3 podium finishers in each category and of course our not-to-be-missed Grand Series Raffle. For our final night, we will raffle a ton of great prizes, courtesy of our sponsors Bike Gallery, Cyclepath, Yakima, The Lumberyard, Chris King, Nossa Familia Coffee, Portland Design Works, Showers Pass, Bob's Red Mill, Icebreaker, and BlaqPaks.

Note: The raffle is free for all adult/junior racers who race on Monday, but you have to be present to win. Also, a heads-up that all our Short Track t-shirts will be on sale for just $10!

5) One last night of FREE kids races, short track clinics, yummy PB&J sandwiches, HUB beer, and Nossa Familia coffee!
Like previous weeks, we will organize free kids races under the trees (starting at 5:30pm sharp) and we'll finish the kids' series with free ice-cooled lemonade and an even cooler Islabike, which we will raffle off among all kids who raced the series (and, yes, kids have to be present to win)!
Elaine Bothe and Andrew Coe of Wenzel Coaching will host one last night of free short track clinics (from 5 to 6pm) and - like every week - our food station will be serving free Dave Killer's Bread PB&J sandwiches.
Last but not least, two of our most beloved sponsors - Hopworks Urban Brewery and Nossa Familia Coffee - will come out to sample Portland's most popular organic summer ales (to anyone over 21) and delicious cold brew coffee & mochas, Brazilian style!!

Note: The PIR concession stand will be open again this Monday and serve HUB beer, soda, burgers, hot dogs, and other yummy goodies. Please respect the PIR policy and do NOT bring any alcoholic beverages from outside the venue.

6) Safety first!
With likely larger-than-usual race fields on Monday and a lot of new riders (of all ages and skill levels), we like to ask everyone to make an extra effort to race safely and courteously. Also be safe when crossing the PIR track and follow the crossing marshals' directions. Finally, if you come by car, make sure not to leave any valuables visible in your car, or bikes unlocked on your car rack.

That's it... I hope you enjoy another great summer weekend and I'm looking forward to seeing you at PIR on Monday for one last night of short track goodness. Round up your friends and team mates. Bring your families. Let's throw a party!

Cheers!

~Kris

PS: A friendly reminder... if you raced earlier in the series, please make sure to bring your race plate! And if you raced multiple categories or have upgraded, make sure to race with the correct race plate!
