Keeping perspective

I know people on the other side who feel the lack of focus and camaraderie
causes the sport to lose appeal. I am more towards your perspective, Jay. I
race my favorite races because they are fun. I ride long fun rides because
they are as fun as a race. Everything else is "training" in the sense I
cannot brag as much about the effort. All of it is a game to distract us
from our inevitable deaths (hopefully natural, peaceful, and a long way
off).

The last year I pretty much quit racing and just rode my bike. I'm hearing more and more folks telling me they do not want to train, watch their diet until bird light, and live the bike racer lifestyle. I would say getting obsessed on racing is not an OBRA problem but a me problem! No one really cares if I stand on wood or get last after some Cat 2 old guy race.
