Mike,
Even though my team pays for the entry fee I would be more than happy to forgo a prize list to get a lower entry fee.
BTW: Attention promoters, ~90% of us will NEVER win a prize so don't worry if you do not have a prize list, that's not why we race.

Secondly, if you do have a prize list, I personally would have zero interest in a trophy a ribbon or a medal. No offense to any promoter out there but I have not kept one single trophy, ribbon or medal over the last 25 years of racing. If you "were" going to have a prize list I would always prefer cash over anything else. Remember you can buy anything you want with cash, unlike some prizes that you might not want or it might not fit or whatever. Gift certificates are nice, also.

Lastly, if a promoter decides to have a cash prize list, then simply have the prize list be based on percentage of the entry fees for each category...the bigger the category, the bigger the prize list, the smaller the category, the smaller the prize list, etc. regardless of age, category, or, gender. This would solve the gender and/or age inequity prize list issue. Reward those who show up without randomness, but on the numbers.

Coolest thing I ever won, a $350 fork at Cascade Classic crit, sold it the next day for $150...........

Back when I might get on a poduim, I always liked winning bike parts. It
was random like a tire or a stem and maybe I couldn't use the part but I
could always sell it. Shops usually have random stuff they are willing
to donate. I also still have a string of ribbons from the '80s most of
which were given to me by Phil Sanders. He filled out the tag on the
back with the event, date and yes, even the finishing time. Another
favorite was a lithograph from Larch Mt TT made by R.B. Bushman. Sadly
it was destroyed in a remodeling accident.
I also won a steak dinner and $30 at a Cooper Spur MTB race.
