All - the Tillamook State Forest is in pretty bad shape from this last winter. There has been a dedicated crew of volunteers out there repeatedly cutting out blowdown, raking, and doing dirt work. The current focus for volunteers is finishing the Historic Hiking Loop (Nels Roger, Wilson River Wagon Road, Gravelle Brothers) on the south side of Rt. 6. There are 2.5 miles left on this trail, and it will likely take 7-10 people to get it done, split into two crews.
I've got myself and 2 others committed, and am asking for more. The plan is to head out Saturday morning, meet at the Summit TH at 9am, and then begin work. Work will go until it's finished or 2pm, whichever is first.
Scope of work includes cutting out deadfall, removing debris, raking, minimal dirt work. Shovels, rakes, McLeods, handsaws are all useful. If you want to help, but don't have any tools - don't despair, I can provide. Two chainsaws (one per crew) will helping to clear the larger trees. You'll need a helmet (bike helmet suffices) and need to sign a waiver (provided day of).
Please contact me directly if you want to contribute to getting the trails out in the TSF rideable again. There is a ton of work still needed on the Gales Creek trail from the bridge to Step Creek junction by Reeher's Camp, but the rangers have identified that they would like the immediate focus to be on the Historic Hiking Loop.
