This is an incredibly difficult message to write. I am resigning as Interim Director of the Alpenrose Velodrome. I will continue to participate in events and manage the Social Media accounts. The charter for the interim Portland Velodrome Committee was to put on the 50th anniversary season of track racing at Alpenrose. The committee is squarely on track to make this happen. Due to personality conflict, I found the environment to be unhealthy for me to continue as Interim Director. It is largely unimportant why I feel this way but, I would be willing to discuss it with you in person. I am at a point in my life where I am looking for something to invest my Time, Talent and Treasure where I look forward to engaging everyone I work with. While the track has provided so much for myself and my family, it became clear that it wouldn’t be in the best interest of myself or the committee to continue.
It’s the interim PVC was charted with mostly the operational aspects at Alpenrose. A Director while accountable for operations the primary role is to communicate the longer term vision. Business planning activities such as increasing field size and revenue year over year are the responsibility of the Director. Given that this role is out of scope for the interim committee there isn’t a need for the roll. Therefore, it will remain unfilled.
The committee is on track and positioned well to deliver on its charter.
The season has started and there are no major blockers. The By-Laws committee is working to bring a draft to the broader community. The expectation is that a final draft will be brought to the ridership once the season completes. I thank everyone who supports the Alpenrose velodrome. I look forward to another successful season at the track.
Thanks,
John Klupar
