OT - Anybody know a good VW/Audi mechanic that does side work?

Apparently it's a timing chain guide, my mechanic said. Something about the passenger side, vs. the driver size.... if I remember correctly

(couple of you have asked for clarity on that)

Thanks again, obra

BUMP and update

Had a mechanic look at the car. Said he thought the timing chain was bad and that it has full compression in all cylinders, misfire in one of them. Said the car is actually in GREAT shape mechanically and was obviously very well maintained..... Figures odds are low replacing the entire engine would be worth the added expense, but he didn't rip into 'er.

I've chatted with several people about it, but just ends up with gradual silence as the email correspondence wears on and out.

So...... would love if someone would just shoot me an hourly rate and estimated cost and said "bring 'er on over - we'll get 'er fixt rite up" and rocked out on it. Just really need it to be done. Srsly.

If there's anyone out there reading who did email me and then I failed to keep the conversation going - I had like 50000 people respond to this and another ad, had a lot of trouble keeping track of who was who and who was and wasn't interested...... so if you were enthusiastic about doing the work and I went silent, hit me up again.

Car is still in Scappoose - I'd love to get it fixed close by, but really it just needs to get done. I'm perfectly willing to tow out pretty much anyone who's gonna be reasonable on price and get to it ASAP.

Thanks!

Hola obrados

I've got a VW that needs some engine work... but it's an older car, and just a "fun car" for me - so I'm not looking to drop a crap ton of money on it. I know there are plenty of highly skilled mechanics out there working for dealerships and so forth that do side work, but so far the couple leads I've had haven't netted me a good fit yet. Anybody happen to know someone?

It'll need a diagnostic in Scappoose - car isn't going anywhere, and I'd rather pay someone drive time than deal with trying to tow or get it towed into Portland.... so big bonus for someone who does mobile diagnostics. And again, I'm perfectly willing to pay for the diagnosis and pricing options for different ways to go about the work.

Also big, big bonus if this mechanic happens to need some roof work done, as I own a roofing company and could arrange a trade for labor.

But I also have cold, hard cash.

Thanks amigos!

OH - and if anyone can recommend a good online resource for information on Audi/VW? Like a GOOD forum of enthusiasts who can help me figure out which motors and transmissions are compatible with which models of vehicles and stuff? I'm really wanting to do a 2.8L to 1.8T conversion, and quite possibly an auto to manual, while we're at it. I understand these B5/B5.5 vehicles are all super compatible with each other's drivetrains, but I know there's going to be important things to know for shopping for a new motor/transmission.

Thanks again.
