I hope for the same, especially since I have friends that live in the
area. Let's all hope that when the rain does come it is moderate in
quantity since landslides are a predictable result of heavy
precipitation on denuded hillsides.

The I in I-84 stands for interstate. There is no way in hell the
interstate is going to be close for a month. Every year the Northwest
catches on fire including the Gorge. Having lived there for 30 years I
have never seen a fire season go beyond October 1st. Rains are on there
way back I-84 will be open by race time, and heaven knows the community of
Cascade Locks could really use all our support right now. This past month
is one of their busiest of the year so missing out on that kind of revenue
is going to be horrible for them. Lets show up in huge numbers and spend
lots of money to help these poor folks out!

Evac levels have been reduced for the West end of the Gorge, mop up is
underway, rain is coming. I think/hope Cascade Locks and all the Gorge
communities will be safe soon.

I'm certainly hopeful that it will be open by then as well. Last I heard
Bridge of the Gods was open southbound to residents only, and 84 closed in
both directions between there and Troutdale. Sure hope things improve soon,
but ODOT has been very careful to avoid making any time commitment and
nobody has any idea what things will be like once it starts raining. Just
wondering if there was a backup plan in the works.

The Cascade Locks community has been hard hit economically due to the fire. The cyclocross race will do a lot to help the community and I encourage everyone who can to show up to support the area. In the extremely unlikely event that I-84 is still closed a month from now Cascade Locks is accessible via HW14 and the Bridge of the Gods. I-84 is the primary east west transportation route into and out of the Portland area so it will be a high priority to reopen asap. Thanks, Jon

I know we're still a good month out on cross at Cascade Lakes - but ODOT is
saying they have no idea when I-84 might reopen after the Eagle Creek fire
damage and debris. Is there a backup plan in the works in case the area is
still inaccessible to non-locals?
