Hello, OBRA racers!

For those of you who didn't receive the email I sent out yesterday, I like to pass out a couple updates about the forthcoming 11th edition of the Kruger's Crossing Cyclocross Classic (presented by West End Bikes), which will double this year as the OBRA 2017 Cyclocross State Championships and the Portland area season closer!

This fun AND epic race - a longtime favorite with racers and spectators alike - will take place on Sunday Nov 19 at Kruger's Farm, located in the beautiful countryside of Sauvie Island (only 20 minutes from downtown Portland!).

This will NOT be your usual cross race! Besides the challenges thrown at us by the November weather gods, you can expect a wild course that will lead you along rutted farm roads, through berry fields, pastures, a barn, and a hoop house, with a six-pack barrier and hay bale barrier thrown in for good measure. Nossa Familia will be on hand with gourmet coffee throughout the morning, Kruger's Farm Market will serve veggie chili, baked potatoes, hot soup, and a variety of sausages and other grilled goodies, and around noon, Hopworks Urban Brewery will come out to serve free samples of their much-acclaimed Abominable Winter Ale and some other HUB classics.

In good tradition, we'll lighten up a giant bonfire along the course to keep everyone warm, we'll have DJ-ed music (and continuous race announcing by Luciano), free kiddie races, and throughout the day we will raffle off a ton of prizes, courtesy of our presenting sponsor West End Bikes (whose support has been key in making this race happen each year) and all our other generous sponsors.

Last but not least, we'll stage another encore of the Doggie Dash CX World Championship, presented by Portland Design Works and benefiting The Pixie Project. This all-for-fun cross race (sans bikes) for your four-legged friends of all stripes and colors (lycra dog team kits strongly encouraged!) is a hoot for racers, dogs, and spectators alike.

All the other details about the race are posted on the race web site at

A couple other updates you might be interested in:

1) Pre-register by Sunday Nov 5 and save $5 off your race entry fee!
Save time and money on race day by pre-registering online for your race. If you register by end-of-day Sunday (Nov 5), you will get to race for just $25 (or $10 if you are 18 or under). In addition, all pre-registered riders will get a start line call-up in the order they have registered!

2) Volunteer and race for free!
We are still in need of a bunch of volunteers to help out with set-up on Saturday (from 10am to 2pm) and on Sunday all day with parking, course marshaling, registration, and tear-down. If you are interested in helping out in exchange for a free race entry, just reply to this email.

3) Schedule and Race Course.
The race schedule will be the same as the Cross Crusade schedule, which means races will go from 8:30 to 4:00pm. State Champ podiums for top-3 finishers in each category will take place at 12:20pm (all morning races) and 4:15pm (all afternoon races).
The race course will be very similar to previous editions, i.e. an 1.8 mile counter-clockwise course on relatively flat terrain and a mix of grass, farm roads, mud, and even a stretch of sandy loam (through the hoop house). The start area will conveniently be located right next to the main parking.

4) Pre-riding & on-site camping.
Riders are welcome to pre-ride the course on Saturday (from Noon to 5pm) or on Sunday during any of the course preview breaks (at 8:00am, 10:15am, 12:20pm and 2:00pm).
This being the OBRA 2017 State Championships - plus the Cross Crusade folks throwing their series & awards party the same weekend (on Friday 11/17) - any racers or specators who are coming down for the weekend (and we hope to see many of you) are welcome to car camp for free on the main parking lot at Kruger's Farm.

That's about it for now. For more updates, follow us on facebook or instagram. I also plan to send out another email with final updates a couple days before the race. In the meantime, mark your calendars; spread the word with friends, team mates and family; and start counting down to another fun-filled day at the farm!

Cheers!
~Kris
