Not that I'm biased towards my teammates, but thank you Bob, for reminding us what makes this silly endeavor worth it.
Love to the OBRA family!

Dear OBRA,

This has been a very hard week for me and my immediate family. It has also been an amazing realization of how we are all connected and how much love and compassion we have in our healthcare system and in our OBRA family.

I was put in the hospital after a crash at Portland Short Track on Monday night a series that I was so looking forward to be competing in this summer. BQ is the best! Stopping to make sure I got attention. Greg and Dave were so kind and patient, guiding me off of the course. Craig is my hero and driver. It was all kind of scary and surreal.

Waking up to find a note from Candi was so wonderful. Visits from teammates and friends and the outpouring of well wishes, really helped me feel loved and cared for.

Friday morning, after four nights of care, and no more chest tube, I was eager to leave the fourth floor nursing staff and get home. Waiting for word on my last chest Xray (the pass to leave), I flagged down a fellow patient in the hallway. He was wearing clothes but still had on his bracelet.

"Are getting out soon?", I asked.
"Yes my wife will here soon." He replied.
"Bike crash?"
"Yes."
"Same."
"Ride much?"
"All the time." "You?"
"Seven days."
"Racer?"
"Yes."
"OBRA?"
"What's your name?"
"Michael Myers."
"Oh, I know you."
"Come in and sit down."

Well, as it turns out, I knew of his story, from the account by Ian, who was at the TT and helped at the crash. I didn't really know the whole story. Micheal was so distraught that he had caused the crash and was whisked away as he was riding off to get help from the nearest marshall. And since I'd just heard the story I could connect Michael up with the other person in the crash. A few text messages later, some air has been cleared and connections have been made.

The best things to come out of the mess my life now has become, is that I have wonderful, loving friends, a great community in OBRA and I learned that reaching out to others can make a difference.

Good luck at the races. Look forward to reading race reports from the OBRA State Road Race.
And thank you all~

Love,
Bob Huff
