As of 12/27, people and businesses have pledged $275 to Transition Projects
to see David Auker and Robert Burney sprint it out. Despite Robert's best
efforts, almost 1/2 of the 305 meter sprint is UP HILL.
Here is a recap of the information:
Charity Street Sprint
January 1, 2001
What: David Auker and Robert Burney will hold a challenge sprint for charity
and old times sake. Both David and Robert are sponsored by River City.
Why: Why not? Actually, Brad Gebhard stirred the pot and said David would
beat Robert. Things went from there and now it seems like fun to try to go
fast. Brad is also putting up 200 francs if Robert wins.
Where: After the New Year's Day Ride at Laurelhurst Park on 1/1/2001 at
approximately 12:35 pm.
How: Straight line street sprint on SE Oak ending at the stairs to the house
where they serve the hot cider and cookies.
What You Need to Do: Ride the New Year?s Day ride for free and for fun. Meet
at the Battleship Oregon Monument on SW Naito Parkway before noon on new
year?s day.
Please make a bet on one or the other of these two riders. Make your check
payable to ?Transition Projects? and mail it to Robert at the address below.
(also send me an email telling me it is on the way so I can keep a tally of
the donations). Indicate which rider you think will win. All money raised
will go to Transition Projects, Inc. (The mission of Transition projects
is to assist and advocate for people in Multnomah County to meet their basic
needs for shelter, food, clothing, physical and emotional health). This is
a tax-deductible donation.
Rider Credentials: David has been racing on the local and national scene
since 1974 and is a former National Champion and multiple Oregon Champion.
Over the last 26 years, David has won just about every road race and
criterium worth winning in Oregon and Washington.
Robert has been racing since 1976 and is a former National Medallist,
multiple Oregon Champion and former Regional Champion on the track. Robert
lost to David at the 1980 Oregon Road Race championship, but won over David
at the 1981 Championship. Robert rode the 1983 Pan-Am and 1984 Olympic
Trails, placing 7th.
Since all money goes to the charity, pick you winner and place your bet.
