Hey Everyone-

You will be receiving a survey from us shortly. Please take the time
to fill it out as the results will help staff and the board create a 5
year strategic plan that will guide us over the next 5 years. This is
your chance to make a meaningful impact on how we operate. We
appreciate the time you take to fill out the survey.

Watch for it in your inbox!

My point was/is:
Lets get feedback from OBRA in general. I dont mean to sound cold or crass,
but I am not concerned about the 'strong commuter' who wants to race. They
can find the information by visting their LBS.

However, their are a number of other issues that the BoD are unaware of. This
is the type of information that needs to be collected and shared.

"If you post to other groups, the same person could "vote his/her ideas"
more than one time unless "names" are included... which is not usually the
case with surveys."

This is why somebody like Martin Baker should work on this. He will have the
know how to reduce the duplicates

Very good idea. My only concern and I do not think it is significant, but
needs mentioning. If you post to other groups, the same person could "vote
his/her ideas" more than one time unless "names" are included... which is
not usually the case with surveys. I do not think we are talking such huge
numbers that it would make that much difference... but if it gets into the
general bike public (from which we would be getting new members) it could
become a stuffed ballot box. Generally getting ideas from some places
outside of the racing population may actually be fresh. This does not mean
I think we are stale or over ripe. I see commuters daily that I wish would
use some of that competitive/assertive (won't call it aggressive to be pc)
riding at a race venue instead of in and around peds and other cyclists with
lower skill levels. Get that testosterone/estrogen used in a race instead
of making a dangerous pass on a public roadway. They would at least be
getting some education about riding in the OBRA world. Thanks for
listening.

Joe's idea to do the survey for the other disciplines is a good one.

If we are going to do this, let's really do it. Develop a comprehensive
survey for all disciplines. Link it to the OBRA web site. But let us not
stop there. We should try to link the survey to everyone else's sites as
well: shops, BTA, PUMP, PWTC, blogs, etc. We could use this as an outreach
tool to really see what would get more people interested in riding
competitively. Believe it or not, there are people out there who might race
but don't even know OBRA exists.

Food for thought:

How many people just jump into racing, and how many people start
commuting by bike, realize they're in pretty good shape and then decide
to race? That's how I got started and I know it was the same for a bunch
of my friends.

Check out the BTA Survey (link below). It seems like the more people
that get started on bikes, by commuting, riding for fun, kids ridding to
school, etc, the more people will eventually show up to race.

Their survey attempts to gather information from all levels of riders on
various aspects of riding in town. Their work makes the city better for
all of us and with out a doubt increases the pool of fit riders who
eventually decide to join OBRA and race.
