Last night at the NWTA meeting I learned that Erik Schultz passed away recently. I do not know details, but understand it was cardiac related. There is to be a memorial ride on March 7th beginning at the Syncline Parking area (not sure of the time).
I just know I always remembered watching him ride at his limit, giving all he could to what he seemed to love. He was one of the A riders who inspired me.
If anyone can provide more information for those who might like to do the ride, or info on the actual cause of his demise, that might help people process the loss of one of our members. Passing on memories of those we know and have known are a crucial way to let their life impact those still here. Please do this for Erik.
thanks,
ron strasser

I don't think I've ever been to a mountain bike race and not seen Daryl
there on his trusty Litespeed. He always had a kind word on the course or
after the race, and it was always clear he was happy to be racing his bike,
no matter the conditions or where he finished. One of the nicest people I've
ever met and I feel blessed to have known him.

Sadness.
Daryl was a trooper, thus a winner. He was a smiling face at my first mtb
race... Rheehers '05 (the mudfest). He did not gripe about any course. He
loved the ride. I always was impressed with his positive outlook and "ready
to go" the best he could at every race. Never heard him say a bad word
about anyone. I urge those who knew him to put him in your thoughts on your
next bike ride or race. Those who knew him, know he was riding because he
loved it. Keep smiling on us Daryl. You are my Buddha. You passed the
Test of Endurance with HONORS.
Hey Ripley... How about some sort of Tribute to him (one form or another)
next mtb season? Think about it.

That is very sad! He was a good guy.
I was just thinking about him the other day...he must have been one of the oldest mt bike racers out there

Carl Cadonau Sr, the patriarch of the Alpenrose family passed away in his

sleep last night. He will be sorely missed. Many a Thursday night he could

be found sitting in the stands watching us use and enjoy his back yard.

Oh no, this is horrible news. Joe Hailey was an amazing person.

I've had the pleasure of racing and chatting with him, and I am

really going to miss him. Hope you're in a better place, Joe.
