Blind Date

Hi Spencer,
The Blind Date Crew are sorry that our leftover Kiddie Cross prizes conjured inappropriate images in your mind. Thumbchucks are a glowing, yo-yo-like kids' toy which put tons of smiles on our Toddler Cross racers, our Kiddie Cross racers, their parents, our juniors, OBRA officials, Blind Date volunteers and the many other racers who got them as swag and prizes last night. See https://thumbchucks.toys/ The feedback from our elite women racers was consistent with the feedback from our other racers last night.
Blind Date is a labor of love, intended to be a fun, mid-week training race experience for all involved. We very much appreciate the many smiles and expressions of gratitude from our racers and their friends and families. We also very much appreciate constructive criticism and the opportunity to improve. With hundreds of racers per night, we or someone or something at Blind Date may inadvertently offend someone - and for this we're truly sorry. We hope that you can see the best in the prizes and toys that we circulate as swag, and that you will not be insulted by the many remaining prizes from our sponsor Zing Toys, which we plan on circulating over the next two weeks.
Happy racing,
Joe & Tony

Yeah. They set up some lights in a few places, but when the sky is cloudy and the daylight ends earlier, dating gets way more fun in the dark. Throw in some sweet mud and it is about as good as that first kiss. My worst finish, but most fun night of racing. Drivin’ my bike blind! Making bad decisions with regard to being competitive, but great ones bringing on the thrills and challenges was a blast. Great course of course. Thanks Blind Daters! More rain please.

Thanks Tony, Joe and all those you put under your spell to make Blind Date at the Dairy such a unique adventure. I think it is not only the people out there racing, supporting other racers, officials and Dairy setting, but the fact that we are smack dab in the middle of a neighborhood. We finish about 8:30 and the tear-down is much more quiet than the racing, so the neighborhood probably loves the Blind Dating as much as we do. I would think much more than the 1/4 midget racing!
You guys get it right. Great environment for fun competition.
Also a big thank you to all the A men / women, singlespeeders and fast B riders for putting up with my slowness. My goal was to minimize my impact on your numerous instances of good races within a race. Your speed and skill level is inspiring when I can follow you for a few seconds.
Rain?

Any reason in particular this series doesn't run longer? I know my wife and I would keep going back. It has really become date night!

Absolutely, tonight was the best of the best indeed. Great bike handling
out there. First time I raced (almost) the whole series, damn Interbike,
thanks to everyone involved, promoters, volunteers, sponsors. Really,
really good times.

I went off course last night too, and then waited for the guy that was behind me before I jumped back in. Racing in the dark can be darn tricky. I find myself racing more to the limits of my fear rather than getting anywhere close to riding near my physical limits. It's like Fear Factor CX.

Rich,

That was me. Made the turn too early, accidentally off course. Turned a 180
to return to the course at point of exit, watched a big gaggle of dudes go
by. My "50 places" comment was just me berating my own stupidity for going
off course.

You had me at the end, BTW, until you washed out. I looked for you after to
debrief but no luck.

Cheers,
JV

In last nights Master B race 311 was running toward me with his bike on the portion with the tight left turn (the washed out gravel near the dirt parking lot) and then dropped it next to me and said that's like 50 places should be good enough. By no means is this an accusing question I was just curious what was going on with that? Accidental course cut? Wreck? I'm definitely not complaining I decided to wash out my back tire right in front of the same guy at the end of the race and got myself ran over a couple of times.

Thank you for holding the lights out there. That corner was pitch black and
if you weren't there, things could have gotten ugly.

I just want all the single-speed and B riders to know it was a privilege to
hold a flashlight (actually a lost LED handlebar light I found in the grass)
on that north side section of the course so you could see... while I was
looking for my scattered batteries for my light. Although I missed several
laps, it worked out as I guess the generator died there during our race. I
have to admit, it was pretty funny looking for the batteries, shining the
light for you folk and all of it taking place in a cloud of DUST. By the
way most of you were really speeding by at a good clip even though it was
DARK back there. Great job. When I got all back it place, I had lots of
energy to finish out the race. I have no idea why some you were draggin'
with tongues hanging out. I was fresh. :-)

Great, except for the gravel. :)

I just want all the single-speed and B riders to know it was a privilege to hold a flashlight (actually a lost LED handlebar light I found in the grass) on that north side section of the course so you could see... while I was looking for my scattered batteries for my light. Although I missed several laps, it worked out as I guess the generator died there during our race. I have to admit, it was pretty funny looking for the batteries, shining the light for you folk and all of it taking place in a cloud of DUST. By the way most of you were really speeding by at a good clip even though it was DARK back there. Great job. When I got all back it place, I had lots of energy to finish out the race. I have no idea why some you were draggin' with tongues hanging out. I was fresh. :-)

The Blind Date rocked. Got to love those category names in the results, but
we need more! How about adding a column to the results so we know who is
“truly taken” and which ones are “still on the market?”
