I think making membership a requirement for being on this list is a
great idea!

I was already under the impression that it was. Now the huge volume of
classified spam makes sense, as well as the daily "I want a good deal on
a brand new Durace cassette but I'm too lazy to go to the bike shop or
buy one online" messages.

I would go so far as to say classifieds should be a completely separate
list from OBRA chat - but it's probably too late for that.
