And perhaps create new problems. As an example one of the methods to
speed the "conditioning" of new asphalt is to spread lime dust on it
(this has been done to PIR in past repavings). Lime dust is very
irritating to the nose and throat when it is kicked up into the air.

I advise keeping in close communication with the track throughout the
process to avoid any nasty surprises.

I think Candi is (once again) being a bit generous. In the 1/2/3 field
the updated lap count was clearly communicated and everyone raced
accordingly. As for the groove, I had a ringside seat for the crash and
it seemed to occur a couple of yards to the left of the crack. Looked
like a touch of wheels to me, but I could be off the mark on this one.

I would like to see the groove filled because it is dangerous, but
everyone is well aware of it by now. If one crashes because of it, I
can't help but see that person as being partially at fault. On a
related point, I have noticed that this year there a number of gouges in
the surface of PIR that I hadn't noticed in the past (seemingly from car
wreckage). They aren't a big deal, but they become a bigger deal in the
wet. If the crew is going to the effort of patching the groove, I would
suggest they take a closer look around the track.

You are absolutely correct. The officials should have made efforts
sooner.
However, it is very hard to anticipate the slowing and accelerating
packs
and determine when they will finish. We will try and adjust the laps so
that it does not happen again.
Both groups need to review the neutralizing and overtaking of riders.
I have asked Jim and Jeff to contact the track and see what kind of
patch
could be done to that crack.

Candy, I was 10th on the real last lap going across the line and the lap

before someone rang the bell for 1 to go so myself and the other 9 ahead
of
me went for it. I not blaming anyone for the bad crash on the second
last
lap but the change in the laps was needed long before it did. The grove
in
the straght has been the worst for riders and for the last 20+ years
that I
have riden out at P.I.R you need to stay away from as well as riders not

changing there line in the last 200m.

>From the lat two weeks of riding at P.I.R the riders need to understand
the
rules of going netural when the pack is passing.

Yes they did. We saw that both groups were going to finish on top of

each

other, so when you were going to see 1 to go we changed it to 2 and

yelled

to the field.
