Ron Frerichs

Karl used to come out to Eugene's Thursday nighter pretty regularly.
Occassionally, I would go off the front with him. Trading pulls with him
was more intense than motor pacing, and it made me a better racer. We had,
and still do have, people visiting town come out from time to time. It is
always good to have new faces change the dynamic a little, as long as
they're safe.

But, just like every other training ride or race held in Oregon, that
doesn't have anything to do with how we decide our categories in the OBRA
championship races.

No one has said we should exclude pros or non-Oregonians from any other
event. They just want to re-define what our championship races represent.

I feel that Aaron should be included. Years ago when I was director of the
Cascade we had that same situation. Karl Maxon, fresh (or not so fresh) from
the Giro was also the best Oregon rider. The thing about a state
championship is it is simple you are a resident of Oregon you get to recieve
a medal. It must be made clear that I believe those from out of state should
be allowed to compete just not recieve state medals. I would rather be
second to Dave Zimbalman than win over a weeker field. It makes us better to
race against the best.
