I have had both DirectTV and Cable. I think direct TV has more channels and is cheaper. But to get internet, I also ended up getting comcast internet. I tried Hughesnet, and it was not very good. In the end, I think I ended up with a better combination. As for Dish, you have to pay extra for Versus and some other channels, and it is part of the package for both Comcast and Direct TV.
