Re: KOIN Survey

I find the difference in wording between the two polls very interesting:

KOIN - "Does Oregon need a new Vehicular Homicide law to protect
bicyclists?"
vs.
KATU - "Should Oregon adopt a vehicular homicide law targeting negligent
drivers?"

I'm not sure how many people in OBRA-land have been to the KATU poll, but
most people were voting "yes" vs most people originally voting "no" on the
KOIN poll. This might be a valid way to look at selling the law to the
public. If the law is sold as protecting bicyclists, it could be defeated.
If the law is sold as punishing negligent drivers, it might pass easier.
Since very few people consider themselves negligent drivers, they won't see
this law as affecting them. Since fewer people statewide ride bikes, they
likely see no reason for a law to protect bicyclists.
