It was not that easy for us when we went to France in 2004. England last
year had plenty to choose from, but Paris did not. I looked pretty deep
for bike options and found only causal tour the city rental places. I
finally found a place that claimed they had "road" and "touring" bikes
but I ended up with a late 80"s Wheeler with down tube shifting and a
42/23 ratio and my friend ended up with a hybrid step through bike. Our
pictures of l'Alpe d'Huez, Tourmalet, and Mont Ventoux are pretty sweet,
especially with my friend on his step through hybrid. Was not exactly
what we had pictured, but still got to ride up the epic cols, especially
on a 42/23!
I swore I would take my own bike if I did it again.

Subject: [OBRA Chat] ideas for bike rental in France
hey,
I will be in France (Paris, Chamonix) for 2 weeks and I want to rent a
bike for training. Any ideas on the best way to rent something decent
to train with? I don't want to haul my bike over there, but don't want
to miss training for 2 weeks. I'm assuming I can just find bike shops
and rent but if any OBRA people know any tricks - or even shops in Paris
or Chamonix it would help.
Thanks!
