Desert Orthopedics is proud to present Bend Don���t Brake Road Race held on May 24 in Bend, OR. Here���s the down and dirty details you should know:
WHEN: May 24, 2014. First race starts at 9AM
WHO: Desert Orthopedics continues to support the local cycling races and Bend Don���t Brake is continually thankful to have them as the title sponsor! Other sponsors include Hutch���s Bicycles, Rolf Prima Wheels, New York City Subs and Bolle Sunglasses.
WHERE: Bike Town USA ��� Bend, OR - Registration is at the Bend Road Department Facility at 61150 SE 27th, Bend, OR 97701. The road course stages a mile and a half from the staging area so give yourself ample time to get to the start.
WHAT: The course consists of a 9.9 mile loop in Southeast Bend. While it may look flat as a pancake, past participants will tell you the wind and those rollers will get the lactic acid built up in your legs quickly and team tactics will play major role in determining a winner.
WHY: Bend Don���t Brake is an event focused on giving back to the local community as well as the cycling community. Each year we pick several worth recipients to give over 80% of our proceeds to. This year they are BEND ENDURANCE ACADEMY, KIRA CRAWFORD, ALWAYS KEEP PEDALING FOUNDATION and WEST COAST WOMEN���S CYCLING. Find out more about these causes on our website.
OREGON SENIOR GAMES: Before 2014, Oregon was one of only two states without a sanctioned State Senior Games. Athletes ages 50 and older can compete in one of the sixteen sports offered. Bend Don���t Brake has partnered with VISIT BEND and is proud to host the cycling race! To be a part of the OSG, you must be 50 years or older and register online BEFORE May 22nd. Participants will be scored by age in 5 year increments and winners will qualify for the 2105 National Senior Games held in St. Paul, MN. OSG participants will need an annual or one-day OBRA racing license and an extra $5 registration fee that will also get you an OSG t-shirt and medal. If you are 50+ you are not required to be a part of the OSG but you can still race at Bend Don���t Brake but you will not qualify for the National Senior Games. More information is on our website!
2014 OREGON WOMEN���S PRESTIGE SERIES: Bend Don���t Brake is passionate about expanding women���s participation in Oregon bike racing. We are thrilled to be included in the OWPS, offering separate women���s scoring and prizes.
VOLUNTEERS: All cycling races depend on volunteers to set a safe and sound course. If you aren���t going to race, come be a volunteer. Participants will get a free lunch and drivers will get a $10 gas card! Sign up to help on our website.
