OBRA registration and site issues this morning

Hi all,

I normally spare you the blow-by-blow on OBRA site updates, but I mentioned this problem a few weeks back and want to let you know that its fixed.

There were two defects that compounded each other: large orders were slow, and you could make concurrent updates to an order. This would lead to two problems: the server would lock itself up trying to do updates, and some updates would be dropped. If you ever tried to register your daughter and then found it was you registered in Junior Women 13-14, this is probably what happened.

Im happy to tell you this is fixed. The order pages are too complicated to ever be blazing fast, but they arent slow anymore. And youll see an Updating message now that locks the order until it is ready for the next change.

Im sorry if this frustrated you. Please let me know if you run into problems!

Thanks,
Scott

Its nice of Brian to say that but its really my fault. We should be able to handle the Hart family, but orders like this are so rare that I havent made the site fast enough for them.

I confess. I did it. This is what happens when I try to sign up the entire Hart family for multiple categories on back-to-back days of Alpenrose. I think it started choking when I got up to about 10 or 12 races, and I got up to 24 races (and about $300) before I gave up and began contemplating just putting in a call to the promoters for a bulk rate:)

Hi everybody,

The site has been very slow to the point of unresponsive this morning, and it has been difficult to register for races. It looks like orders with more than 5-10 people choke the site.

Ive put a bandaid on things and am working on a better fix. In the meantime, if you need to register more than a 3-4 people, please split it across multiple orders. Let me know, and I will waive your online order fees. Please also let me know if my bandaid causes any problems for you.

Just to be clearthis is my screwup. You *should* be able to register a busload of people on one order. Those orders are so rare, though, that I havent properly tested them in a while and I missed something. Sorry!

Thanks for your patience,
Scott
