Thanks for the call out. Media things like theses just don't happen unless
you keep plugging away and sending information to media sources for your
events. Producers are not mind readers and there are tons of events or
personal interest stories to cover.
I can walk other organizers through my process of how I go about gaining
publicity and promotion. Most of it is writing a very good Press Release
with the who, what, when, where and why info in organized way. I have a
media list (local, national and trade), along with purchasing a PR
distribution service (PRWeb). I also pitch ideas to producers and exec
editors. The more work you can do upfront or story leads the better. News
staff is small and many freelancers. Broadcast media is good for bike
racing as there is color, speed, action and visual interest. They are
always looking for events with flavor.
