Race Against Cancer at Blind Date - please join! ---- UPDATES & Correction ----

Correction: Our one lap Bike Against Cancer fund raiser race starts at
5:45 pm (not 5:30 pm) tomorrow. This is part of our handicapped, one
lap Stampede Race.

Thank you Jim Sunderland for sharing your heartwarming story (below).
It's to help keep great guys like you and Steve Hemminger in our races,
training rides, smack talk and heckling, that we've added the Bike
Against Cancer to our Blind Date Schedule.

Pre-registration for the Blind Date closes at 5 pm today. You can sign
up on-site tomorrow. Pre-registering saves you a few bucks and helps us
run the event smoothly for you.

Bring your Pledge Sheets to the start of the Bike Against Cancer to
enhance your call up and handicap! Don't worry about not winning or
placing in the front at this race. The Bike Against Cancer is not just
a race against each other, but it's also a race against cancer. This is
the one race in OBRA where the more racers that beat you, the more good
you do, by helping the racers ahead of you raise more money from their
pledge sponsors! I will be racing for last place!

If you think that we should call up Athletes Lounge pro triathlete Chris
Bagg first in the Bike Against Cancer, then send him out for two laps
instead of one, please let us know! And if you think that Chris' wife
and fellow pro triathlete Amy Van Tassel should run the race with her
bike and broken collarbone, do let us know!

Updates for Tomorrow's Blind Date Races:

Our Vegan Caterer Josh is deep in the woods and will not make it to
tomorrow's race. Please bring your own food and non-alcoholic drinks.

Our second installment of Season Pass T-Shirts to fill our backorder has
arrived. We will have them available for pick up next to the 21st
Avenue Bicycles neutral support tent. Vintage Blind Date t-shirts are
available cheap and a limited number of this year's t-shirts will be
available for sale.

Please remember to warm up on non-manicured Alpenrose grounds and to
Avoid biking in the Neighborhoods.

Many thanks and Congratulations to each of you for being so clean at the
Dairy. Our "morning after" parking lot and course sweeps pick up almost
exclusively baseball and go-cart related trash!

Hope to see y'all out there tomorrow. The weather should be great.
Keep your eyes open for Tony's Course Changes to keep it interesting!

Subject: [OBRA Chat] Race Against Cancer at Blind Date - please join!

There is a one lap "race" at 5:30pm Wednesday as a cancer fundraiser for
the OHSU cancer center (dear to my heart) prior to the regular CX races
at Alpenrose. Unfortunately I cannot make it which is doubly
disappointing. I'm a cancer survivor (thus far) and have been receiving
treatment at OHSU. Four years ago I was diagnosed with stage IV cancer
and almost two years ago told it was terminal, yet at this time there is
no sign of disease and I have been able to resume racing (!!), though
slowly as I'm still recovering from treatment.

>From what I understand, there is at least one rider who is sponsored to
the tune of *$35 for each rider that he/she beats*, so a large field
will make a big difference *regardless* of whether you are sponsored or
are contributing - all are welcome. Think of it as a nice warm up and
course preview. I'm sponsoring one rider - the tall Mr. Voldengen.
