legal question

I replied earlier but it didn't go through for some reason. I practice bicycle and traffic law almost exclusively.

I think it depends on if there is a sign there that says "bicyclists use pedestrian signal". If there is you are OK to cross on the pedestrian signal but if there is no sign indicating that the pedestrian light is the traffic control device for bicyclists operating outside of the crosswalk then you can't cross on just the walk, you need a green light.

If you want to comply with the letter of the law, just pull up on the sidewalk and cross at walking speed (unless you are downtown, where that is illegal). I personally do not cross on the crosswalk light, to avoid confusing/enraging motorists. I am less concerned about the law. I believe an angry motorist may kill some other cyclist, and that blood would partially be on my hands. Your mileage may vary.

We are traffic, not pedestrians. If there is a desire for cyclists to avoid
conflict with turning cars, they put in a specific traffic light. If you

There's a recent bike Portland article on this topic. It's not legal, but I always do it anyway, same with the one on Vancouver and killingsworth.

Hi OBRA Land
So first I did do a search for this topic and I didn't find anything here. So I'm going to ask.

On 52and and Powell there is a light and a bike lane with the other normal car lanes. To cross Powell and keep going North on 52and you need to be a cyclist or a Bus. Cars have to turn left or right. I see cyclist cross the intersection in the road not in the cross walk when the pedestrian light says for pedestrians to cross. Is that Illegal? Are we suppose to wait for the green or can we cross when the pedestrian signal allows pedestrians to cross?

Thanks in advance
