Just something for consideration in this whole debate...

I just spent the winter outside the US in an emerging cycling culture.
Presently, due to the lack of competition in the marketplace there is
rarely more than one cycling/triathlon/running event on any given date and
due to religious/cultural influences events fall almost exclusively on a
single day of the week. The negatives were plentiful, certainly, but I
have to admit that it was very cool to be at THE event that everyone was
doing without having everyone spread out over several competing events on
the same day. We are certainly not talking about moving to something like
this, but I would support a model that protects a date each month/week for
Championship or historically significant events or at least speaks to a
single event in specific racing formats (road, dirt, etc).

again, just my 2 cents.
