Sure, you can drive almost to the gate and park off to the right
in forest road junction / turn around area.

You can also start at the Cold Springs campground, there is day
use parking right at the entrance. Water is available in the
campground (center loop, some what hidden in the trees, look for
the big red hand pump).

hello, we are headed out tomorrow to sisters with another couple and two 2 year olds.  We want to ride the 242 McKenzie pass from sisters up to the summit maybe and return to sisters area.  we have heard some trip reports that the last few miles to Sisters is open to cars and has lots of traffic and we have also read recommendations regarding where to park in Sisters to start the ride.  Since we are pulling kids and the other couple has less cycling experience I want to completely eliminate or minimize riding where there is traffic, so my question,  can we drive up the 242 route till we get near the closure and then  parallel park or find other adequate parking to eliminate the ride from town ?  thanks for any info.
