Trophy Cup results and number issues (yes, again)

Trophy Cup results from Tuesday will be posted shortly.

Everyone – number placement issues are absolutely killing us when we’re
trying to score the race. I’ve spent the last two nights trying to piece
through the results and figure out where everyone finished. We’re doing
this in a challenging environment as it is with the low light levels, but
when numbers are not placed where they’re supposed to be, it turns what
should be relatively straightforward into an ordeal.

The biggest issue is people putting their numbers too far up on their side,
or just having them in the middle of their back. We send out the pictures
with how to pin your numbers every season multiple times. It’s not that
hard. The vast majority of these issues are with guys (yes, guys
specifically) who have been doing this racing thing for years. When you pin
your numbers on your back, it’s impossible to read them with the camera,
and it’s hit or miss whether we can see it hand scoring.

For example:

This is far from the worst example we had out there.

If we can’t read your number, WE CAN’T SCORE YOU.

If you sit up at the line and your number gets obscured, WE CAN’T SCORE
YOU.

All of these problems just result in me having to take much longer to sort
through results, and in a lot of cases we just don’t know who people are.
I’ve got a day job, I’m doing this in the evenings in the days following
the race when I’d much rather be drinking a couple beers. We have a few
layers of redundancy in how we score these races, but these issues have
gotten us to the point where either we are relying on a single person being
able to catch these numbers because nobody else can, or worse, none of us
are able to figure out who people are.

I’ve made a bunch of notes in the results for the biggest issues we saw out
there. But please, check your buddy’s numbers before you roll up to the
line.

For the couple of you who crashed last week and had your numbers get ripped
off then came to us after the race, thank you.
