Local cyclist gets doping sanction

You're legally allowed to plead the 5th.  You're not allowed to skip the doping test without consequences.  It's not the same thing.

Well, lets hope your not on a jury when somebody pleads the 5th!  At the end of the day that is all this is, but pleading the 5th in this circumstance comes with a 4 year ban.  Rightfully so, we all go into this knowing the rules to level the playing field.
With that said, John is 100% correct, no 'doper' was caught, inferred maybe, but dangerous territory.

Random drug tests at work really irks a few of my colleagues. Impairment
is one thing (e.g. coming to work drunk...) but a "drug" test another
issue... They don't "dope" of course, but its just the principle and the
invasion of privacy. Company just implemented hair testing as well, and
that was the last straw for one guy, He retired, just on
principle. (although he was thinking of shaving all his hair off :) I
personally don't subscribe to this attitude, but for some people, 'personal
freedom' is a very serious matter...

But back on subject: yeah Ron is probably right. But I am just saying you
can't really call him a doper. just a "doping sanctioned cyclist" et al...
Its all very interesting.

Maybe he had something in his system that wasn't performance-enhancing (e.g. pot or other recreational drug) that would have gotten him fired from a job if his employer somehow found out. I'll take a 4 year racing suspension any day over my career. I don't know the testing rate of amateur athletes but if it's really low, it's possible he thought it was worth the risk.
I have no idea if this is the case but sometimes there are other non-cycling reasons for not wanting people to know what's in your body.

Yeah right! Big brother is not just various government or doping agencies (look closer at big brother as the global corporations). That could be his weak reason, but from my perspective, he probably had something he did not want the test to find in his urine. Not taking the test is a behavior showing us that he feels he does not need to follow the rules. It is all just about him!

"...he could be clean, just didn't want to submit to big brother, etc.. "

Indeed, there are infinitely many possibilities. Even with so many possibilities out there, today's challenge, should we choose to accept it, is to find one that is even LESS likely than the one above.

Puhleeeeze.
