Gorge Roubaix Updates for 2017

Dear OBRA Members,

I have received a number of questions regarding this year's Gorge Roubaix
Races. It is with sadness that we must say that for 2017 we are canceling
all categorized races. We are going to instead focus on the Gorge Gravel
Grinder as well as a brand new ride in Bend, the High Desert Gravel
Grinder, and bringing back the old Mt. Hood Cycling Classic course for the
Mt. Hood Gravel Grinder.

Yes I know that this is a huge blow to some of your racing schedules and
you are greatly disappointed but before you lash with negative comments
that question everything from my intelligence, to motives to integrity,
please realize that for the past 20 years I have donated my time putting on
no less than 40 races and 200 racer days in the great state of Oregon. So
please consider that before flaming me on OBRA Chat. Unfortunately the
cost of putting on races is just getting way to expensive. Between new
requirements being mandated by permitting agencies, to increased insurance
and equipment costs all coupled with reduced participation numbers and
sponsorship revenue I just can not afford to run standard competitive road
races anymore.

My sincere apologies to those who are disappointed by this decision. I
understand many of you are not into challenging yourself on a hard scenic
ride but only want the thrill of crushing your fellow racers in the
peleton. To those I respect your decision not to attend. For everyone
else who loves to ride hard on a challenging course and finish it off with
great food, beer, and and support, we look forward to seeing you in 2017!

Sincerely,
Chad Sperry
